Deputy Director of Operations at the Presidency, Mustapha Gbande, has called on government appointees under President John Dramani Mahama’s administration to remain loyal to the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) and prioritise the needs of its grassroots members in their official duties.
His remarks, drawn from multiple public statements and media interactions, have reignited conversations about loyalty, fairness, and political inclusivity within the Mahama-led government.
Gbande, who also serves as the Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, emphasised that party loyalty should guide how opportunities are distributed across the country. He argued that while governance should accommodate all citizens, the NDC’s own supporters – particularly those at the grassroots – deserve recognition for their role in securing electoral victory.
“If there are three opportunities – we don’t mind – give one to an NPP grassroots person and give two to NDC people. Because when they (NDC people) see that opportunities are coming and directors of NPP who are still at strategic places are giving to their party people over the NDC faithful, it’s a big problem”

He maintained that every appointee must reflect the NDC’s principles in their work and understand that their political appointments are both a privilege and a responsibility to the party. Gbande said that President Mahama’s administration would not tolerate attitudes that suggest appointees could act “independently of the party,” that brought them into office.
Mr. Gbande urged ministers, chief executives, and other government representatives to maintain a close working relationship with the party’s grassroots and to resist the temptation of distancing themselves from the NDC, insisting that no amount of power or intelligence can replace the value of loyalty to the party.
He stated that those who fail to remain connected to the movement risk isolating themselves from the very base that sustains the NDC’s political strength.

Appeal for Patience and Unity
Beyond addressing appointees, Gbande also spoke directly to NDC supporters frustrated over delayed job placements and appointments. Drawing from his interactions with the youth, he encouraged them to remain patient and continue to demonstrate their commitment to the party and the Mahama administration.
He advised that finding jobs should go beyond sending resumes through social media or informal networks, stressing that real opportunities emerge from consistency, preparation, and demonstrated competence.

According to Gbande, the leadership is aware of the challenges facing unemployed supporters and is working steadily to address them. He urged all members to exercise patience as the administration delivers on its promises, adding that the government continues to make “steady progress” despite current constraints.
In a broader appeal for calm, Gbande reiterated his confidence in the NDC’s vision under President Mahama, encouraging unity and resilience within the party, noting that political victory is sustained not merely through leadership but through the collective faith and endurance of its members.
