The leadership of the Energy Commission Division of the Public Services Workers Union (PSWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) has strongly refuted media reports alleging that staff of the Commission are agitating for the removal of the Acting Executive Secretary, Ing. Eunice Biritwum.
In what it described as a troubling case of misinformation, the Division’s Chairman, Hubert Nsoh Zan, issued a statement emphasising that the circulating claims do not reflect the sentiments, position, or concerns of employees of the Energy Commission.
According to the statement, “these reports are false, baseless, and do not represent the position or sentiments of the staff of the Energy Commission.”
The leadership stressed that the report suggesting unrest within the Commission is entirely fabricated and does not originate from any legitimate internal source.
Calm Work Environment Contrary to Claims
In their detailed rebuttal, the Divisional (PSWU) leadership reaffirmed that the situation within the Commission remains stable.
“Contrary to the reports of ‘agitation’ and calls for her removal, the work environment at the Energy Commission remains calm, professional, and productive.”

Union leaders emphasized that there are no ongoing protests, industrial actions, or disruptions within any of the Commission’s offices across the country. This directly contradicts the narrative pushed by some media platforms and anonymous sources.
The clarification, they said, became necessary to protect the integrity and collective reputation of the Commission’s workforce, which has remained fully committed to its mandate despite widespread public attention.
The statement expressed deep concern about attempts to misuse the name of staff in advancing narratives that do not originate from within the institution.
“We find it deeply regrettable that external actors or anonymous sources would seek to use the name of ‘the staff’ to pursue an agenda that is entirely unknown to us.”

They indicated that such falsehoods risk undermining the credibility of the institution and could unnecessarily create public mistrust if left unchallenged.
The union further clarified that the Divisional PSWU remains the only recognised and authorised body with the mandate to communicate staff grievances or concerns publicly. “We have issued no such statement,” the leadership stressed.
Focus on Institutional Stability and Mandate Delivery
Reaffirming their commitment to internal stability and national service, the Energy Commission Division highlighted that staff remain focused on carrying out the institution’s statutory responsibilities.
“We urge the public and the media to disregard these sensationalized reports, which appear designed to create unnecessary tension where none exists.”

According to the leadership, employees of the Commission continue to work diligently to advance the organisation’s mandate of regulating and managing Ghana’s energy resources, a role they consider essential to national development and energy sustainability.
The leadership also reiterated its dedication to safeguarding staff welfare while ensuring the Commission maintains a stable and professional working environment.
Call for Responsible Journalism and Verification
In concluding its response, the Divisional leadership urged all media organisations to practise responsible journalism by cross-checking claims before publication.
“We advise all media outlets to verify information with the authorized Divisional (PSWU) leadership before publishing claims that involve the collective reputation of our staff.”

The union stressed that such due diligence is critical to preventing the spread of misinformation, particularly in the energy sector, where public confidence and institutional stability are vital.
The Energy Commission Division assured stakeholders, including the public and the media, of its openness to engagement whenever genuine concerns arise.
They reiterated that the union remains committed to transparent communication and will continue to represent the views and interests of staff accurately and responsibly.
With the clarification now issued, the leadership expressed hope that the misinformation would be put to rest and that the Commission would continue its work without distraction.
