A widespread power outage has affected several communities across Accra, Tema and parts of the Central Region, with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) attributing the disruptions to broken high-tension poles, feeder faults and network challenges.
In separate public notices issued on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) explained that engineers are currently working to rectify the faults and restore electricity to affected areas as quickly as possible.
In the Accra East Region, ECG indicated that the outage experienced on the 33KV Shai Hills Feeder was caused by broken high-tension poles.
“The Electricity Company of Ghana, Accra East Region, wishes to inform our cherished customers and the general public in the underlisted areas that the outage being experienced is as a result of broken HT poles.”

Communities affected by the fault include Rama Town, Fulani Flat Land and surrounding areas.
ECG assured residents that its engineers are on site addressing the issue. The company also expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to customers in the affected communities.
Manhean Feeder Fault in Accra West

In the Accra West Region, ECG announced that another outage was traced to a fault on the Manhean Feeder. Communities impacted by this fault include Ablekuma Borkorkor, Oduman, Manhean, Afuaman and nearby areas.
According to ECG, engineers are actively working to resolve the challenge and restore electricity. The company reiterated its commitment to restoring supply while expressing regret for the inconvenience caused.
A separate network fault has also affected Sarpeiman Greater Hope, parts of Deeper Life, Ablekuma Galilea and Asofan New Station in the Accra West Region.
ECG noted that this outage, like others reported on Tuesday, is due to technical challenges within its distribution network.
The company maintained that teams are deployed to rectify the situation and restore supply as soon as possible.
Network Fault Affects Tema Communities
Meanwhile, in the Tema Region, ECG reported a separate power outage due to a fault within its network.
“The Electricity Company of Ghana, Tema Region, wishes to inform our cherished customers and the general public in the underlisted areas that the outage being experienced is as a result of a fault in our network.”

The affected locations include Legacy Girls, Akuse, Asutsuare, Volivo, Golden Exotics, Shinefield, Stone Lodge, Osuwen and the Commandos Military Training Camp, as well as surrounding areas.
The power distributor said its engineers are working assiduously to restore supply. ECG again apologized to customers for the disruption and assured the public that efforts are underway to resolve the fault promptly.
Planned Maintenance in Central Region

Beyond the unplanned outages, ECG has also scheduled planned maintenance works in parts of the Central Region aimed at improving service delivery.
The maintenance exercise is set for Wednesday, March 4, 2026, from 9:00am to 4:00pm.
Affected communities include Akweley, Credit Union, Ofaakor, Andam, Papaase, Jei Krodua, Adawukwa, Opembo, Jei River and Bawjiase, along with surrounding areas.
ECG stated that the temporary outage is necessary to enhance reliability and improve overall network performance in the region. The company apologized in advance for any inconvenience arising from the exercise.
Planned Maintenance in Accra West

In the Accra West Region, ECG announced another planned maintenance exercise scheduled for Thursday, March 5, 2026, from 9:00am to 5:00pm.
The maintenance will affect areas including Gbawe Top Base, Borla Road, McCarthy Hill, Doblo, Hebron, Medie, Sarpeiman, Satellite, Tabora No.2 to No.6, Bankyease, Racecourse, Alhaji and the Rockstar Area at Tantra Hills, as well as surrounding communities.
ECG emphasized that the maintenance works are part of ongoing efforts to improve service delivery and strengthen network reliability.
Across all regions, ECG reiterated its commitment to restoring supply and improving service quality.
In each of its notices, the company assured customers that its engineers are working diligently to resolve the various faults and complete scheduled maintenance within the stipulated timeframes.
The series of outages highlights the ongoing technical challenges facing Ghana’s power distribution network, even as the utility provider continues efforts to upgrade infrastructure and enhance reliability.
For residents and businesses in the affected areas, restoration timelines will depend on the complexity of the faults and the successful completion of maintenance works.
