The Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus, has taken measures to strengthen the healthcare system in his constituency by investing an amount of GHS 250, 000 from the MP’s share of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) Fund under the 2026 budget to support critical health interventions within the constituency.

He said, “These interventions are focused on strengthening healthcare delivery, improving infrastructure, and enhancing the quality of care for our people”. He added that, though small in size, the fund is being used with caution, focusing on areas that need interventions the most.

The funds, he reiterated, are being used judiciously, ensuring maximum benefit for the constituents, even though he asserted is not enough.  He highlighted on the Ares that the money was deployed, ensuring accountability and inclusivity.

Proposed Maternity Block At Gomoa Mangoase

Honorable Kwame Asare Obeng mentioned that one of the interventions is the completion of a maternity block at Gomoa Mangoase, a project which is expected to significantly enhance the quality of both newborns and their mothers. Over the years, expectant mothers in the area have faced challenges accessing adequate maternal health services.

They are forced to journey long distances, posing a danger to them and their unborn babies. This project, when completed, will improve the health delivery outcomes in the area, ensuring safety for both mothers and their babies.

In addition to expanding healthcare infrastructure, attention is also being given to ensure its security. Measures are being put in place to protect both patients and staff, as well as the medical equipment, from theft and vandalism.

Health Sector To Be Modernized

Honorable Kwame Asare Obeng emphasized the need to inculcate modernization into the health sector, to promote efficiency. As such, he stated that laptops will be provided to all health facilities within the constituency. This initiative is expected to enhance data collection, streamline record-keeping, and improve overall administrative efficiency.

Also, he announced the installation of internet connectivity at the District Health Directorate.

This will promote access to online resources and real-time reporting systems, and health officials will be better equipped to coordinate services, respond to emergencies, and align local efforts with national health policies.

Honorable Kwame Asare Obeng further opined that, at the Gomoa Obuasi Health Centre, mattresses will be supplied to improve patient comfort and well-being.

Among the sectors that benefited from the funds is the Gomoa Aboso CHPS compound, which is set to undergo rehabilitation works. Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds are very important in the health setup of the country. Individuals who are not able to access larger facilities as a result of distance and other reasons are able to receive primary healthcare from these facilities.

Speaking on the allocation, the Hon. Asare Obeng stressed that although the funds are limited, appropriate measures have been taken to ensure effectiveness in the health delivery service in the constituency.

“I remain hopeful that, in time, this allocation will be increased to enable us to do even more. For now, we will continue to build with what we have; step by step, block by block.”

With the increase in population, there is a need to increase health intervention strategies to ensure it is accessible to all. He reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that the health needs of his constituents are given priority as he noted, “For now, we will continue to build with what we have; step by step, block by block”.

This initiative is seen to be a step in the right direction and a positive effort to contribute immensely to the health needs of the people in Gomoa Central. As the Constituency continues its journey toward improved healthcare access and quality. This allocation stands as a reminder that even small interventions, when consciously managed, can make a significant difference.
