Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has made his ambitions clear, revealing that he wants to bring the UEFA Champions League title back to the Catalan giants and cement his legacy with the club.
Having achieved domestic successes since his appointment and boasting a promising squad, Europe’s elite competition has now become the ultimate target for the German tactician.
Speaking ahead of Barcelona’s La Liga clash with Celta Vigo, Flick openly declared his desire to conquer the continent with his current team, underlining both belief and urgency within the squad.
“My dream is to win the Champions League at Barça. We have a fantastic young squad for the future.”

Barcelona’s last triumph in the UEFA Champions League came in 2015, and the club has since struggled to replicate its dominance on the European stage. For a side steeped in continental history, with five titles to their name, the prolonged drought has become increasingly difficult to ignore.
European Frustration Still Fresh
The latest setback in Europe only adds fuel to Flick’s determination. Barcelona’s campaign this season ended in disappointment after a quarter-final exit to Atlético Madrid.
The tie proved to be a painful one for the Blaugrana, who fell 3-2 on aggregate. Much of the damage was done in the first leg at Camp Nou, where Atlético secured a crucial 2-0 victory.

Despite efforts to respond in the return leg, Barcelona were unable to overturn the deficit, leaving fans and players with a sense of unfinished business. This elimination followed another near miss in the previous campaign.
During the 2024/25 season, Barcelona came agonizingly close to reaching the final, only to suffer a dramatic 7-6 aggregate defeat to Inter Milan in the semi-finals. That tie, filled with goals and momentum swings, highlighted both the attacking potential and defensive vulnerabilities of Flick’s side.
These repeated European disappointments have shaped Flick’s current mindset. He is not chasing the Champions League out of vanity but he sees it as the missing piece in a project that is otherwise progressing steadily.
Balancing Ambition with Domestic Priorities
While Flick seeks to win the Champions League with Barcelona, he is also keeping a firm grip on immediate objectives. Barcelona are currently in a strong position to defend their La Liga title, having created nine points gap between themselves and fierce rivals Real Madrid.
Securing the league title is a priority Flick is unwilling to compromise. His focus reflects a calculated approach where building domestic dominance while preparing for another serious European push is on cards.

Off the pitch, discussions about his long-term future have begun to surface. Flick’s current contract runs until 2027, and while there is openness to extending his stay, he made it clear that now is not the moment for negotiations.“I would like to renew the contract, but it’s not the time to talk about it now. We have important things,” Flick said.
His stance reinforces a manager fully locked into the present, unwilling to be distracted by personal matters while major trophies remain within reach. Flick’s confidence is rooted not only in Barcelona’s potential but also in his own pedigree.
He is no stranger to Uefa Champions League success, having guided Bayern Munich to the title in 2020. That triumph included a victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the final, showcasing his ability to navigate the pressures of Europe’s biggest stage.
Now, the challenge is to replicate that success in a different environment, with a younger squad and evolving identity. Barcelona’s rebuilding phase appears to be gaining momentum, and Flick believes the foundation is strong enough to support a genuine European title push.
