Accra Hearts of Oak have issued an end-of-season statement acknowledging that a third-place league finish and an embarrassing early FA Cup exit fell below the standards expected of one of Ghana’s most decorated clubs, even as they signed off the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League campaign with a commanding 4-2 victory over champions Medeama SC on the final matchday.

The Phobians, who conceded just 15 goals across the entire season and kept a record 24 clean sheets, the best defensive record in the league, will nonetheless reflect on a campaign that promised more than it ultimately delivered.

Medeama SC clinched the title, leaving Hearts to settle for third place in what the club’s board and management have openly described as a disappointing outcome.

In a statement released on Monday, 25th May 2026, the club expressed gratitude to supporters while pulling no punches about where the season fell short. “We acknowledge that while the club secured a 3rd-place league finish, we ultimately fell short of our primary objectives and the standards expected of Hearts of Oak,” the statement read.

Particular frustration was reserved for their MTN FA Cup campaign, which ended at the Round of 64 stage after being eliminated by second division side True Democracy, an exit that drew widespread criticism from supporters and pundits.

The club described it plainly as one of the season’s lowest points. “Our early exit from the MTN FA Cup at the Round of 64 stage was particularly disappointing and remains one of the low points of the campaign,” the statement revealed.

Despite the defensive excellence that saw goalkeeper and backline combinations produce numbers rarely seen in the Ghana Premier League, Hearts were unable to translate that solidity into a title charge.

Their low attacking output, inconsistency in key matches and failure to sustain momentum across the campaign ultimately cost them in the race for silverware.

The club was, however, emphatic that lessons have been learned and that work to restore Hearts of Oak to their rightful place at the summit of Ghanaian football is already underway. “At a club of this stature, we understand that progress must always be measured against ambition, consistency, and the pursuit of trophies,” the statement noted, a line that sets the tone for what is expected in the season ahead.

Strategic reviews are currently ongoing across both the technical and playing departments, with the board confirming that structural changes aimed at improving performance and competitiveness are being implemented.

“Preparations for the upcoming season are already underway. Strategic reviews are currently ongoing across both the technical and playing bodies of the club, aimed at strengthening competitiveness, improving performance structures, and restoring the club to the level expected by our supporters.”

Squad reinforcement is also on the agenda, though the club acknowledged that a current transfer ban has complicated player registration processes.

Management moved to reassure supporters that the restriction is temporary. “The transfer ban will be lifted soon, enabling the club to register new players for the upcoming campaign,” the statement added.

Beyond first-team matters, Hearts also revealed a renewed focus on youth development, promising a more aggressive scouting approach and improved technical development strategies in the academy setup, with further announcements expected in due course.

The statement closed with a message aimed directly at a fanbase that has grown increasingly restless in recent seasons, acknowledging their patience while reaffirming the club’s intent. “Your support remains the foundation of this great club,” management said. “The work to restore Hearts of Oak has already begun.”

For a club of Hearts of Oak’s history and expectation, third place is never enough. The rebuild, it seems, starts today.
