The dawn of a new era of growth has arrived for the Bogoso-Prestea enclave following the official earmarking of US$20 million in mining funds dedicated to comprehensive community development.
This monumental funding allocation seeks to directly address long-standing infrastructural and social deficits in the host communities by targeting key sectors including education, healthcare, infrastructure, and job creation.
By committing these substantial resources, the company intends to fundamentally alter the local economic landscape, ensuring that the wealth generated from gold mining leaves a permanent, positive footprint on the lives of the residents.
“Today, Heath Goldfields supports approximately 1,500 direct and indirect jobs, has invested over GH¢150 million in local procurement within five months of resumed operations and has paid more than GH¢290 million towards inherited worker-related liabilities, including salary arrears, pension contributions and severance obligations”.
Mr. Patrick Appiah Mensah, Managing Director of Heath Goldfields.

Heath Goldfields LTD, a wholly owned Ghanaian mining company, launched this transformative five-year Community Development Plan designed to improve livelihoods and accelerate sustainable socio-economic development across the region.
The ambitious initiative, introduced under the theme “A New Era of Growth, Opportunity and Hope: Our Commitment to Community Development,” marks a strategic turn toward deep-seated indigenous corporate responsibility within Ghana’s extractive sector.
This five-year master plan expands considerably on traditional mining corporate social responsibility (CSR) models by combining heavy capital infrastructure with long-term human resource development, providing a systematic approach to sustainable growth following a prolonged period where the local mine sat idle.
Reversing Inactivity and Economic Revitalization
The rollout of this massive development fund represents a major milestone for the Western Region, particularly given the recent operational challenges of the Bogoso-Prestea mine.
Addressing stakeholders at the high-profile launch event, the Managing Director of Heath Goldfields, Mr. Patrick Appiah Mensah, highlighted the remarkable turnaround achieved since the company assumed management of the mine, which had previously been completely inactive for over two years.

The operational stoppage had created severe economic hardships for local businesses, workers, and families who rely heavily on the value chain generated by active mining operations.
In a bid to demonstrate the rapid financial impact of their intervention, the company heads revealed that their corporate stabilization efforts are already yielding concrete results.
Strategic Infrastructure and Educational Pillars
At the heart of the US$20 million allocation is a meticulously curated list of physical infrastructure projects intended to decentralize development across various divisional areas.
Educational expansion is heavily prioritized to ensure long-term community benefits, highlighted by the planned development of a University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) Satellite Campus and the establishment of a Nursing and Midwifery Training College—specifically the Himan-Prestea College in Prestea.
These tertiary institutions will be supported by the construction of a Technical and Vocational Training Centre at Beppoh, alongside new Junior High School (JHS) blocks for Dumase and Kwameniampa, creating a comprehensive educational ladder that equips local youth with modern, highly marketable skills.

Beyond classrooms, the development blueprint addresses critical public safety, health, and social infrastructure that host communities desperately require.
An ultra-modern Community Center and a specialized Fire Service Training School will be built in the Bogoso Divisional Area to boost emergency response capabilities and public safety training.
Healthcare access is also receiving a massive upgrade through the construction of a new clinic in Dumase, a Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound in Kumsuno, and an additional JHS block and CHPS compound for Kwameniampa.
Leisure and community cohesion are also factored in, with a standard Astro Turf Park designated for the Mbease Nsuta Divisional Area, alongside portable water supply systems and a community center for Akokobediabro.
Comprehensive Community Benefits and Sustainable Development
The long-term benefits of this institutional and infrastructural transformation are poised to reshape the socio-economic reality of the Bogoso-Prestea enclave for decades to come.
By embedding vocational, technical, and medical training colleges directly within these towns, the investment directly combats youth unemployment by transitioning young locals away from dangerous, informal mining practices into formal, skilled professions.
The localized health facilities will dramatically reduce mortality rates and travel times for critical healthcare, while clean water projects will eliminate waterborne diseases, directly uplifting the baseline standard of living.

Furthermore, this sweeping development initiative highlights a growing shift toward resource nationalism and indigenous corporate execution.
The Founder of Heath Goldfields LTD, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, reiterated the profound importance of indigenous participation in Ghana’s mining sector during the launch.
He noted that Ghanaian-owned enterprises possess the full capacity to responsibly manage the nation’s natural resources while delivering meaningful, lasting development for local communities.
Supported warmly by traditional leaders, including Nana Kobina Nketsia V, President of the Western Regional House of Chiefs, the five-year plan serves as a powerful testament to how domestic asset ownership can align corporate profitability with host-community prosperity.
