Ghana’s improving economic fortunes are creating renewed optimism among investors as stronger macroeconomic conditions combine with encouraging global market prospects to open fresh opportunities in the second half of 2026.
This positive assessment comes from Standard Chartered’s latest Global Market Outlook, which highlights Ghana as one of the markets benefiting from easing inflation, improved fiscal discipline and growing confidence in the local currency. While the global investment environment still faces uncertainties, the Bank believes disciplined and diversified investing will remain the key to building wealth over the long term.
The report was unveiled during Standard Chartered’s Global Market Outlook events in Accra, where clients were presented with the Bank’s latest investment insights and how global trends are expected to influence Ghana’s financial markets.
Ghana’s Economic Recovery Gains Momentum
After enduring years of elevated inflation, currency depreciation and debt restructuring, Ghana is beginning to show stronger signs of macroeconomic stability.
According to Standard Chartered, improving domestic conditions are providing a more constructive environment for investors. Stronger external reserves, prudent fiscal management and supportive export earnings, particularly from gold, are helping restore confidence in the country’s economic direction.
These improvements have also strengthened confidence in the Ghana cedi, while easing inflationary pressures are creating a more predictable environment for businesses and investors alike.
The Bank believes these developments position Ghana more favourably as investors seek opportunities across emerging markets.
However, it cautioned that domestic gains alone will not shield investors from external risks.
Global Markets Continue to Offer Opportunities
Despite geopolitical tensions, elevated bond yields and rising oil prices, global equities have continued their impressive performance during 2026.
According to Standard Chartered, global equities have already climbed more than 12 percent since the beginning of the year, driven largely by resilient corporate earnings and sustained optimism surrounding artificial intelligence.
The Bank expects this momentum to continue during the second half of the year, supported by what it describes as a soft landing for the global economy.
Its investment strategy remains overweight on global equities, with particular preference for the United States and Asia excluding Japan.
The Bank also identifies selective opportunities in fixed income investments and alternative assets, offering investors additional avenues to strengthen portfolio performance.
Gold and Equities Remain Top Picks
One of the strongest messages from the outlook is Standard Chartered’s confidence in both equities and gold as essential components of long term investment portfolios.
The Bank’s Chief Investment Office projects the US S&P 500 Index to reach 7,950 by the middle of 2027, reflecting continued confidence in corporate earnings and economic resilience.
Gold is also expected to maintain its appeal as a safe haven asset, with prices forecast to climb to US$5,100 by mid-2027.
These forecasts reinforce the Bank’s view that while equities remain powerful drivers of capital growth, gold continues to play an important role in protecting portfolios during periods of market uncertainty.

Investors Face Four Critical Market Risks
Although the overall outlook remains positive, Standard Chartered warns that investors should not become complacent.
The Bank identifies four major factors that could influence market performance during the remainder of 2026.
These include movements in global energy prices, increasing equity supply, shifts in investor positioning and changes in central bank policies.
Each of these developments has the potential to create periods of heightened market volatility.
For Ghanaian investors, the picture becomes even more complex as global oil prices, the strength of the US dollar, changing interest rate expectations and capital flows into emerging markets continue to influence domestic financial conditions.
As a result, the Bank believes investors will need to remain flexible and actively manage their portfolios rather than relying on a single asset class or market.
Diversification Becomes More Important Than Ever
Standard Chartered says the current investment environment reinforces one timeless principle, diversification remains one of the most effective ways to manage risk.
Rather than concentrating investments in one country, currency or asset class, investors are encouraged to spread exposure across different markets and investment products.
This approach can help cushion portfolios against unexpected shocks while allowing investors to benefit from opportunities wherever they emerge.
The Bank believes diversified portfolios will be better positioned to withstand fluctuations caused by global economic developments while taking advantage of long term growth trends.
Long Term Discipline Will Reward Investors
Dr. Setor Quashigah, Head of Affluent and Wealth Management at Standard Chartered Bank Ghana PLC, said the current environment requires investors to remain focused on long term objectives rather than reacting to short term market movements.
“The second half of 2026 presents both opportunity and complexity. While improving domestic conditions are encouraging, global markets remain dynamic and require a disciplined, long-term approach. Our role is to help clients look beyond short-term volatility, diversify thoughtfully across markets and asset classes, and build resilient portfolios that support their financial aspirations today while preserving wealth for generations to come.”
His remarks reflect the Bank’s broader message that Ghana’s economic recovery is creating a stronger investment foundation, but lasting success will depend on careful planning, disciplined decision making and maintaining diversified portfolios that can adapt to an evolving global economy.
