Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital

Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has opened a design competition inviting staff members to create the institution’s first official customised cloth and matching paraphernalia, part of a wider push by Management to rebrand and strengthen the hospital’s corporate identity.

The call for submissions, signed by the Chairperson of the Paraphernalia Committee, frames the initiative as a deliberate step to give the hospital a distinct visual identity that staff and stakeholders can rally around, beyond the introduction of fabric alone.

According to the notice, Management has taken steps to introduce a customised Korle Bu cloth and other approved paraphernalia for staff and key stakeholders as part of its ongoing efforts to rebrand and further strengthen the hospital’s corporate identity.

The initiative is described as aiming to enhance the institution’s visibility, promote unity among staff and stakeholders, and foster a stronger sense of belonging and pride within the Korle Bu community, positioning the design exercise as more than a cosmetic exercise but a tool for shaping how the hospital presents itself both internally and externally.

Staff Invited to Submit Designs for Cloth and Shirts

Under the terms of the call, staff members are being invited to participate in a design competition to develop suitable options that consider the hospital’s brand, identity, colours, history and corporate image.

Submissions are being sought in two categories, the Korle Bu cloth itself, and T-shirts and Lacoste shirts intended to complement it as part of the broader paraphernalia range.

Participants are required to clearly state the concept behind their designs, rather than submitting artwork alone, a requirement that suggests the selection process will weigh the reasoning and symbolism behind each entry as much as its visual execution.

All submitted designs will be reviewed and considered by a designated committee, which will make the final selection on behalf of Management.

The competition window has been set for a single week, opening on Friday, 17th July, 2026, and closing at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, 24th July, 2026. Interested staff members have been directed to submit all entries to [email protected] before the deadline, with no indication in the notice of exceptions being made for late submissions.

Winning Designer to Receive Financial Award and Formal Recognition

To incentivise participation, the hospital has attached both a financial and reputational reward to the exercise.

“A financial award will be presented to the participant whose design is adjudged the best by the selection panel.”

Beyond the monetary prize, the notice states that the successful designer will also receive formal recognition as the creator of the official Korle Bu cloth and other approved paraphernalia designs, effectively attaching their name to a piece of the hospital’s institutional identity going forward.

In its closing appeal, the Paraphernalia Committee urged all interested staff members to take advantage of the opportunity to contribute to the visual identity, unity, and continued growth of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, framing participation as a chance for staff to have a direct hand in shaping how the institution is seen going forward, rather than leaving the process solely to external designers or Management alone.

Notable Moment for One of Ghana’s Oldest Teaching Hospitals

The initiative comes as Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, established in 1923 and one of the country’s oldest and largest referral hospitals, continues efforts to modernise its institutional image alongside its clinical operations.

A dedicated cloth and paraphernalia line would give the hospital a branded identity comparable to those adopted by other public institutions and corporate bodies in Ghana, where customised fabric is often used to mark anniversaries, reinforce belonging, or accompany rebranding campaigns.

With submissions open for just one week, attention will now turn to how many staff members take up the opportunity before the 24th July deadline, and which design the selection committee ultimately settles on to represent Korle Bu Teaching Hospital’s new corporate identity across cloth, T-shirts and Lacoste shirts.
