The Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) ended the final trading session of the week on a high note, extending its remarkable rally as investor confidence continued to strengthen across the market.
Strong buying interest, a sharp increase in trading activity, and gains in the benchmark indices underscored the resilience of Ghana’s equities market, which has now delivered an extraordinary year to date return of more than 70 percent.
The latest session saw improved market participation as investors continued to position themselves in both financial and non-financial stocks. Although a handful of equities recorded losses, the overall mood remained overwhelmingly bullish, with the market edging closer to another major milestone.
Trading Activity Surges
Market activity improved significantly compared to the previous trading session, reflecting renewed investor appetite for listed equities.
At the close of trading, a total of 2,782,366 shares exchanged hands, representing a market value of GHS15.57 million. Compared with Thursday’s trading session, trading volume increased by 17 percent, while turnover recorded an impressive 57 percent jump.
The strong improvement in both volume and value indicates that investors are becoming increasingly active on the exchange, a development many market watchers consider a positive sign for sustained market growth. Rising turnover often reflects stronger liquidity, making it easier for investors to buy and sell securities while supporting healthier price discovery.
Clydestone Steals the Spotlight
Among the 27 listed equities that participated in trading, Clydestone Ghana emerged as the day’s biggest winner after recording an impressive 8.11 percent appreciation in its share price. The stock closed at GHS4.00, capping an outstanding session that placed it firmly at the top of the gainers’ chart.
Intravenous Infusions also delivered a strong performance, climbing 7.69 percent, while Hords gained 5.88 percent. Ecobank Transnational added 5.61 percent to round off another impressive day for investors who had positioned themselves in these counters.
The widespread gains across companies operating in different sectors suggest that investor optimism is broad based rather than concentrated in only a few stocks. This reflects growing confidence in the prospects of Ghanaian listed companies as the country’s macroeconomic environment continues to improve.
MTN Ghana Dominates Trading
Despite recording a marginal decline in its share price, MTN Ghana remained the most actively traded equity on the Ghana Stock Exchange.
The telecommunications giant accounted for 1.47 million traded shares during the session, comfortably maintaining its position as the market’s most liquid stock. Its share price, however, slipped slightly by 0.3 percent to close at GHS6.57.
Kasapreko followed with 671,057 traded shares, continuing to attract significant investor attention following its successful market debut earlier this year. CalBank also recorded healthy trading volumes with 232,982 shares changing hands, while Intravenous Infusions completed the list of the most actively traded stocks with 158,133 shares.
The sustained interest in these equities demonstrates that investors remain confident in companies with strong growth prospects and attractive valuations.
Few Losers Fail to Dampen Market Optimism
While the overall market maintained its positive momentum, three listed companies ended the session with losses.
MTN Ghana recorded the biggest decline of the day, although its 0.3 percent drop was relatively modest. Guinness Ghana Breweries followed with a 0.25 percent decline, while Standard Chartered Bank shed 0.11 percent.
The limited number of losing stocks compared to the five gainers highlights the strength of buying sentiment currently driving the market. Investors appeared willing to overlook isolated declines as confidence in the broader market remained intact.
Benchmark Index Climbs Closer to 15,000 Points
The benchmark GSE Composite Index continued its upward trajectory after gaining 41.28 points, representing an increase of 0.28 percent, to close at 14,937.92 points.
The latest advance leaves the index just a short distance from the significant 15,000-point mark, a level that would further reinforce the market’s exceptional performance this year.
The index has now posted a one week gain of 0.89 percent and a four week increase of 1.56 percent. More importantly, it has delivered an outstanding year to date return of 70.32 percent, making the Ghana Stock Exchange one of Africa’s best-performing equity markets in 2026.
The sustained rally reflects improving investor confidence, stronger corporate performances, and growing optimism surrounding Ghana’s economic recovery.
Financial Stocks Maintain Strong Momentum
The financial sector also continued to impress investors as the GSE Financial Stocks Index advanced by 1.03 percent to close at 8,265.36 points.
Although the index remains down by 0.88 percent over the past four weeks, its year to date gain has climbed to an impressive 77.86 percent, underlining the remarkable recovery in banking and financial services stocks.
The strong performance of financial equities reflects renewed confidence in the sector following improving macroeconomic conditions, stronger balance sheets, and expectations of continued earnings growth.
Market Capitalisation Holds Firm
The Ghana Stock Exchange’s total market capitalisation remained robust at GHS287.1 billion, equivalent to approximately USD24.9 billion.
The sizable valuation demonstrates the increasing importance of Ghana’s capital market in supporting business growth, attracting investment, and creating wealth for shareholders.
Analysts believe that if current market conditions persist and investor confidence remains high, the exchange could continue breaking new ground in the months ahead.
Strong Momentum Raises Expectations
The latest trading session once again confirmed that the Ghana Stock Exchange remains firmly on an upward path. Strong trading activity, rising turnover, healthy gains across several stocks, and another advance in the benchmark indices all point to a market that continues to enjoy robust investor support.
Although short-term corrections are inevitable in any stock market, the broader trend remains overwhelmingly positive. With the GSE Composite Index now boasting a year to date gain of more than 70 percent and financial stocks delivering even stronger returns, investors will be watching closely to see whether the exchange can maintain its remarkable momentum and finish 2026 with one of its best performances in history.
