Ghana’s Ambassador to the Czech Republic, Her Excellency Theresa Adjei-Mensah, has rallied the Black Princesses to represent the country with pride as they prepare for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Poland 2026.

Adjei-Mensah travelled from Prague, Czech Republic to Poland to welcome the Ghanaian delegation and offer encouragement ahead of the tournament, which begins on September 5.

Ghana has been drawn into a tough Group C alongside Ecuador, Korea Republic and France.

The ambassador told the players that their preparations and hard work must now translate into a strong showing on the global stage. She also assured the team that the Ghanaian government is aware of the challenge before them and remains committed to supporting their campaign.

“I am so happy to come from Prague to welcome you to Poland. I know you have put in so much work and the time is almost near . I trust your technical team has taken you through great preparation and I believe you will go and make Ghana proud.”

The Ambassador further revealed that President John Dramani Mahama was aware of the team’s preparations and had assured the players of the government’s continued backing. “The President of Ghana, H.E John Dramani Mahama, is aware of the task ahead of you and has assured of his continued support to these young girls,” she said.

Beyond government support, the ambassador promised to mobilise Ghanaians living in Poland to create a strong home-away-from-home atmosphere for the team during the competition.

“I wish you the very best and you will see me and my team at the stadium every time to offer our support.”

“We will meet with the Ghanaian community in Poland to inform them of your arrival so they come in their numbers to wave the flag of Ghana at the stadium.”

Her Excellency Theresa Adjei-Mensah

The Black Princesses are currently based in Krakow, where they are continuing preparations under head coach Charles Sampson. The team is expected to play a series of international friendly matches as part of its final preparations before the tournament begins.

Black Princesses Chasing Historic Breakthrough

Ghana qualified for the 2026 World Cup after overcoming Uganda in the final qualifying round, extending their record of consecutive appearances at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup to eight.

However, despite their remarkable consistency in reaching the global tournament, the Black Princesses are still searching for their first qualification from the group stage.

Their most recent campaign in Colombia in 2024 ended at the group stage. Ghana lost 2-1 to Austria and 4-1 to Japan before ending the tournament with a 3-1 victory over New Zealand. Salamatu Abdulai scored twice in the final game, with Tracey Twum adding the third goal.

The victory over New Zealand was Ghana’s first win of the 2024 tournament but was not enough to secure progression to the knockout stage.

The 2026 edition therefore presents another opportunity for the Black Princesses to break new ground. Ghana will open their campaign against Ecuador on September 6 before facing Korea Republic and France in their remaining Group C matches.

The team will hope its early preparations in Poland, combined with strong support from Ghanaians at home and abroad, can help produce a historic campaign.

For Sampson and his players, the challenge is bigger than simply extending Ghana’s impressive record of qualification. They must convert regular participation into tangible progress and finally lead the Black Princesses beyond the group stage of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
