President John Dramani Mahama has announced further changes to his government, reassigning two officials and appointing a new Minister for Labour, Employment and Job Creation.
The latest changes, follow the August 7 2026 reshuffle was announced by the Presidency on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, affect the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Job Creation and the government’s arrangements for special initiatives and national resilience.
Under the changes, Hon. Abdul-Rashid Pelpuo has been reassigned from his position as Minister for Labour, Employment and Job Creation to serve as Minister of State for Special Initiatives.
Hon. Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum will replace Pelpuo as Minister for Labour, Employment and Job Creation. The Presidency also announced the reassignment of Deputy Minister for Defence, Hon. Ernest Brogya Genfi, who will now serve as Presidential Advisor on National Resilience and Emergency Preparedness.
The reassignments take immediate effect, according to a statement signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications.
Pelpuo Moves to Special Initiatives
Abdul-Rashid Pelpuo’s reassignment marks a shift in his responsibilities within the Mahama administration after serving as Minister for Labour, Employment and Job Creation. He will now take charge as Minister of State for Special Initiatives, a position that places him in a different area of government responsibility.
The Presidency’s statement did not provide details on the specific initiatives that will fall under Pelpuo’s new assignment or explain the reasons behind his reassignment.

Agyekum Takes Over Labour Ministry
Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum has been named as the new Minister for Labour, Employment and Job Creation, replacing Pelpuo with immediate effect. His appointment comes as the ministry continues to occupy an important position in government policy, particularly on matters relating to employment and job creation.

Genfi Assigned National Resilience Role
The President has also reassigned Ernest Brogya Genfi, who previously served as Deputy Minister for Defence. Genfi will now serve as Presidential Advisor on National Resilience and Emergency Preparedness.
His new assignment shifts his responsibilities from the defence sector to an advisory role focused on national resilience and preparedness for emergencies. The Presidency did not disclose the specific circumstances surrounding the reassignment or outline the scope of Genfi’s new advisory responsibilities.
The move nevertheless adds another adjustment to the government’s current ministerial and advisory structure as President Mahama continues to reorganise responsibilities among officials.

The statement, titled “President Mahama makes further Ministerial Changes,” said the President had made the changes to his government and confirmed that the reassignments would take immediate effect.
The announcement did not indicate whether the changes were part of a broader restructuring of the government or whether additional appointments or reassignments would follow.
