Japan Motors Trading Company Limited (JMTC) has announced a major leadership change in its Ghana operations, appointing Amine Kabbara as the company’s new Managing Director.
The appointment puts Kabbara at the centre of the company’s next phase of growth as Japan Motors seeks to strengthen its position in Ghana’s highly competitive automotive industry.
Kabbara takes over from Salem Kalmoni, who has moved into an even bigger role as Group Chief Executive Officer of the Japan Motors Network.
The leadership transition marks an important moment for the company, which has built a long-standing presence in Ghana’s automotive market and continues to represent several international vehicle and mobility brands.
Amine Kabbara Takes Charge
Kabbara’s appointment is not entirely unexpected, given his previous responsibilities within Japan Motors Ghana.
Before becoming Managing Director, he served as General Manager for Sales and Marketing, a position that placed him at the heart of the company’s commercial activities.
In that role, he was responsible for developing strategies aimed at increasing sales and strengthening Japan Motors’ position in the Ghanaian automotive market.
His experience in understanding customer behaviour, identifying market opportunities and using market data to shape business strategies is expected to become even more important in his new position.
With responsibility for the company’s overall operations in Ghana, Kabbara will now have to move beyond sales and marketing to oversee a broader range of business activities.
From Sales Strategist to Managing Director
Kabbara brings more than 16 years of professional experience to the new position.
His career has been shaped by expertise in market analysis, sales strategy and stakeholder engagement, areas that are particularly important in an automotive industry facing changing consumer preferences and intense competition.
Japan Motors said Kabbara played a key role in identifying market opportunities and translating market intelligence into strategies that contributed to increased sales.
He also helped strengthen relationships with customers and business partners, giving him valuable insight into the commercial environment in which the company operates.
That background could give the new Managing Director an advantage as he takes responsibility for steering the company’s Ghana operations.
His promotion also represents a rise through the ranks for an executive who has already been closely involved in the company’s growth strategy.
Salem Kalmoni Moves to Group Leadership
While Kabbara takes over the Ghana operation, his predecessor, Salem Kalmoni, has been elevated to Group Chief Executive Officer of Japan Motors Network.
In his new position, Kalmoni will oversee operations across six West African markets: Ghana, Togo, Benin, Nigeria, Senegal and Mali.
The move effectively expands Kalmoni’s responsibilities from the Ghanaian market to the wider regional network.
The leadership changes therefore form part of a broader restructuring within Japan Motors Network, with responsibilities being redistributed to support the group’s ambitions across West Africa.
For Japan Motors Ghana, the transition also provides continuity because Kabbara is already familiar with the company, its customers, its business partners and the dynamics of the local automotive market.
Growth and Efficiency in Focus
As the new Managing Director, Kabbara is expected to focus on sustaining growth while improving operational efficiency.
He will also be expected to help expand Japan Motors’ presence within Ghana’s automotive market.
The company operates in an increasingly competitive environment where vehicle prices, financing conditions, customer preferences, after-sales services and economic developments can significantly influence demand.
For an executive with a strong sales and marketing background, the challenge will be to turn his commercial experience into broader operational results.
Japan Motors will also need to maintain strong relationships with customers and business partners while responding to emerging opportunities in Ghana’s transportation and mobility sector.
The company’s leadership transition comes at a time when businesses across the automotive industry are looking for new ways to remain competitive and respond to changing market conditions.
More Than a Century in Ghana
Japan Motors Ghana has a particularly long history in the country’s automotive industry, having operated in the market for more than a century.
Its extensive presence has helped establish the company as a recognised name in Ghana’s vehicle and mobility sector.
The company is the authorised dealer in Ghana for Nissan vehicles, Foton Trucks and Buses, Yamaha Motorcycles, Power Products and Lassa Tyres.
This diverse portfolio gives Japan Motors exposure to several segments of the market, ranging from passenger vehicles and commercial trucks to motorcycles, power equipment and tyres.
Under Kabbara’s leadership, managing this portfolio effectively will be crucial to the company’s future performance.
A New Chapter for Japan Motors
Kabbara’s appointment signals a new chapter for Japan Motors Ghana, while Kalmoni’s elevation gives the wider group a new regional leadership structure.
Rather than representing a complete break from the past, the transition appears designed to combine continuity with fresh leadership.
Kabbara enters the role with considerable knowledge of Japan Motors Ghana and its commercial operations, while Kalmoni will take his experience to the broader West African network.
Japan Motors said the changes are intended to ensure continuity in operations while positioning the group for further growth and competitiveness across its markets.
