Nowhere Cool @ 10

Ghanaian rapper and songwriter M.anifest is celebrating the tenth anniversary of his critically acclaimed album Nowhere Cool with a special live experience.

On September 8, 2026, exactly a decade after the project’s release, the artist took to X to announce the milestone and invite fans to an exclusive event. “Nowhere Cool is 10 today. Love to everyone whose ears and hearts have made it an unforgettable classic with a special place in the culture,” he wrote, directing followers to a signup page for “The Nowhere Cool @ 10 Live Experience.”

Released on September 8, 2016, through Singitdamnit Music, Nowhere Cool is widely regarded as one of the landmark albums in contemporary Ghanaian hip-hop. The 14-track project blends sharp lyricism with highlife, jazz, funk, and traditional African rhythms.

It features collaborations with Worlasi, Cina Soul, South African artist Tumi Molekane, Nomisupasta, Dex Kwasi, Nigerian singer Brymo, and Paapa. The title track and closing song “Goodbye” bookend a conceptual journey that explores the uncertainties of creative life, personal relationships, social pressures, and the search for belonging.

The album’s title draws inspiration from a short story by renowned Ghanaian author and poet Ama Ata Aidoo. On the track “Now Here Cool,” Aidoo herself appears, reciting lines that capture a sense of restlessness and resilience: “Nowhere cool sister, ain’t nowhere cool.”

M.anifest has described the project as his most complete artistic statement at the time, a work that reflected both his Ghanaian roots and experiences living abroad. Critics praised its maturity, internal rhyme schemes, and ability to fuse African instrumentation with hip-hop without compromise.

Public Reaction

Upon release, Nowhere Cool received strong reviews across Ghanaian and African music platforms. Writers highlighted its thoughtful messaging on love, money, struggle, and identity, noting that nearly every track could stand alone as a single.

Songs such as “B.E.A.R,” “Hand Dey Go, Hand Dey Come,” “Sugar,” and “Ozymandias” showcased M.anifest’s range, moving from introspective verses to more upbeat, collaborative moments. The project solidified his reputation as a lyricist who prioritizes substance and craft over fleeting trends.

A decade later, the album continues to resonate. Fans frequently cite it as a classic that rewards repeated listening, with many noting its lasting cultural impact in Ghanaian hip-hop circles. M.anifest, born Kwame Ametepe Tsikata and often called the “god MC,” has built a career defined by intellectual wordplay, multilingual delivery, and boundary-crossing collaborations.

He is the grandson of the late ethnomusicologist and composer Professor J.H. Kwabena Nketia, a connection that has informed his deep engagement with African musical traditions.

In the years since Nowhere Cool, M.anifest has released further projects including The Gamble EP, Madina to the Universe, and the more recent New Road and Guava Trees. He has maintained a presence as both a recording artist and a thoughtful voice in discussions about African music’s global trajectory.

The decision to mark the tenth anniversary with a curated live experience reflects the album’s enduring place in his catalog and among listeners.

Details of the live event are available through the linked ticketing platform. Organizers describe it as an “unforgettable” celebration designed for fans who have connected with the music over the past ten years. The announcement has already drawn positive responses from supporters who view Nowhere Cool as a high-water mark in Ghanaian rap.

The anniversary arrives at a moment when M.anifest continues to balance artistic integrity with broader recognition. His work has earned collaborations with international figures and consistent critical respect at home.

By revisiting Nowhere Cool through a live format, he offers audiences a chance to experience the album’s themes and sounds in a communal setting a full decade after its arrival.

For many listeners, the project remains a reference point for thoughtful, culturally rooted hip-hop. Its exploration of feeling unsettled yet determined nowhere cool, yet still moving forward continues to speak to creative and everyday struggles.

Nowhere Cool at ten stands as both a retrospective and a living piece of Ghana’s contemporary music story.
