Ghanaian highlife and Afrobeats star Mr Drew has officially confirmed the release of his highly anticipated new single “Steeze,” featuring acclaimed rapper Medikal.

The track is scheduled to drop this Friday, September 11, 2026, generating significant buzz across social media and among fans of Ghanaian music.

In a post shared on his X account on Wednesday, September 9, Mr Drew simply wrote “Steeze ft @Medikalbyk this FRIDAY 📌,” accompanied by striking cover art. The vibrant, stylized illustration depicts both artists in a modern living-room setting, with the word “STEEZE” rendered in bold, glowing neon-style lettering across the top.

Mr Drew appears on the left with a shaved head and beard, while Medikal sits on the right, both dressed in contemporary streetwear. The artwork has already drawn thousands of likes and shares, reflecting the excitement surrounding the project.

This marks another collaboration between the two artists, who have previously teamed up on successful tracks including “Sumɔ Mi (Love Me),” “S3K3,” “This Year,” and “2 Shots.” Their chemistry has consistently delivered infectious records that blend Mr Drew’s smooth, melodic vocals and highlife-infused Afrobeats sound with Medikal’s sharp, energetic rap delivery and signature wordplay.

Mr Drew, whose real name is Andrew Nii Commey Otoo, rose to prominence after finishing as first runner-up on MTN Hitmaker Season 6 in 2017. The Accra-born musician and dancer, a product of Achimota School and the University of Ghana, won Best New Artist at both the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards and 3Music Awards in 2021.

Known for his silky voice, electrifying stage presence, and dance moves, he has released a string of hits and his debut album Alpha in 2021. Fans have come to expect polished production and danceable rhythms from the artist, who continues to solidify his place among Ghana’s leading contemporary acts.

Medikal, born Samuel Adu Frimpong on April 5, 1994, in Sowutuom, Accra, is one of Ghana’s most respected hip-hop and Afrobeats rappers. Before fully committing to music, he played professional football for Sekondi Hasaacas. He adopted the stage name Medikal due to his early fascination with medical-themed lyrics.

Over the years he has built a reputation for fast-paced flows, witty bars, and frequent use of Pidgin English and Ghanaian slang. Medikal has scored major hits, collaborated with heavyweights across the industry, and earned multiple awards and nominations, including recent recognition at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards.

The title “Steeze” itself carries cultural weight. In slang that originated in skateboarding and snowboard culture before crossing into hip-hop, “steeze” combines “style” and “ease.” It refers to effortless cool, personal swagger, and main-character energy that cannot be forced.

By choosing this title, the artists appear to be leaning into themes of confidence, composure, and distinctive personal flair- qualities both are known for in their music and public personas.

Mr Drew had been teasing the project in the days leading up to the official confirmation. Earlier posts included cryptic messages such as “Steeze bi gye, som, k)” and short video clips, building anticipation among followers. The Friday release date positions the song to dominate playlists, radio airwaves, and club rotations heading into the weekend.

Ghana’s music scene remains highly competitive, with Afrobeats, highlife, and hip-hop continuing to gain international traction. Collaborations between established vocalists and rappers have proven particularly effective at crossing genre boundaries and appealing to broad audiences.

Past pairings between Mr Drew and Medikal have demonstrated strong commercial and critical potential, and industry observers expect “Steeze” to follow a similar trajectory.

While full details about the producer, exact musical direction, and accompanying visuals have not yet been revealed, the cover art and teaser activity suggest a polished, contemporary package.

Public Reaction

Fans have already begun expressing excitement in replies and quote posts, with some noting the natural chemistry between the two artists and predicting another chart contender.

The announcement arrives at a time when both musicians maintain active release schedules and strong fan engagement. Mr Drew continues to balance studio work with live performances, while Medikal remains a consistent presence in Ghana’s rap conversation, known for both his commercial output and lyrical confidence.

As Friday approaches, anticipation is expected to grow further. Streaming platforms, radio stations, and social media timelines are likely to feature heavy promotion once the track becomes available. For listeners who have followed the artists’ previous joint efforts, “Steeze” represents another opportunity to hear two complementary talents combine their strengths.

In the broader context of Ghanaian popular music, such collaborations help sustain momentum and keep local sounds prominent both at home and in the diaspora.

Music fans in Ghana and beyond will be watching closely when the song lands this Friday. Until then, the stylish cover art and simple yet effective announcement have already succeeded in capturing attention and setting expectations high for Mr Drew and Medikal’s latest offering.
