MTN Ghana has announced that legendary reggae and dancehall artiste Samini will headline a special edition of the MTN Music Festival in Tamale.

The event is scheduled for Friday, 19 September 2026, at 7:00 p.m. at the Modern City Hotel in the Northern Region capital.

In a post shared on its official X account on Thursday, 10 September 2026, the telecommunications giant declared: “Okay, Tamale… this one is BIG! @samini_dagaati is joining the experience!” The company invited residents of Tamale who are available to attend to confirm their interest in the comments for a chance to win tickets.

A promotional video accompanying the announcement features Samini addressing fans directly, gesturing energetically while the MTN Music Festival branding and the date and venue details flash across the screen.

The clip ends with the MTN 30 logo, highlighting the company’s ongoing anniversary celebrations.

The Tamale show forms part of MTN Ghana’s broader music and entertainment activations designed to bring high-profile performances closer to audiences outside Accra.

By staging the festival in the Northern Region, the company continues its pattern of engaging communities across the country through culture and live entertainment.

Samini, whose full name is Emmanuel Andrews Samini, remains one of Ghana’s most respected and enduring music stars. Originating from Wa in the Upper West Region, he pioneered a distinctive African dancehall sound that fuses highlife, reggae, dancehall and hip-hop. Over more than two decades, he has released multiple successful albums, scored major hits and earned international recognition.

His stage presence and consistent live performances have earned him a loyal following, particularly in northern Ghana, where his roots and cultural connections run deep.

The choice of Tamale as the venue carries special significance. As the largest city in northern Ghana and a commercial and cultural hub, Tamale regularly hosts major events that draw residents from surrounding towns and communities.

The Modern City Hotel provides a suitable indoor setting for an intimate yet high-energy evening with one of the country’s music icons.

MTN Ghana has a long history of supporting the creative arts and partnering with leading Ghanaian artistes. The company has previously collaborated with Samini on various platforms and continues to invest in music festivals, talent development and community engagements.

The current activation ties into the brand’s 30th anniversary activities, which have included a series of customer-focused experiences and celebrations nationwide.

Public Reaction

Fans interested in attending the Tamale show are being encouraged to engage with MTN Ghana’s social media posts. Those who confirm their availability stand a chance of receiving complimentary tickets. Exact details on how winners will be selected and notified are expected to be shared by the company in the coming days.

The announcement has already begun generating excitement among music lovers in the Northern Region. Many view the event as a rare opportunity to experience Samini’s catalogue of hits in a dedicated festival setting close to home.

Tracks spanning his early breakthrough years through to more recent releases are expected to feature prominently in the performance.

Beyond the music, the festival reflects MTN’s strategy of combining brand visibility with meaningful entertainment experiences. Similar activations in other regions have drawn strong turnout and positive feedback, reinforcing the value of taking premium live shows beyond the capital.

As 19 September approaches, anticipation is likely to build further. Organisers are expected to release additional information regarding supporting acts, entry protocols and any special anniversary elements tied to the MTN 30 celebrations.

In the meantime, residents of Tamale and surrounding areas are being urged to watch the official MTN Ghana channels closely and confirm their interest for the chance to be part of the evening.
