Lands Minister inaugurates GIADEC Board

Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Honorable Samuel Abu Jinapor

The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Honorable Samuel Abu Jinapor, has inaugurated new Board members of the Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation (GIADEC).

Speaking at the swearing in of members, the lands minister charged the newly inaugurated board of GIADEC to ensure that they develop the full value chain of the bauxite industry in the country.

He further emphasized that the work of the Board is crucial to the overall success of the Corporation which was established in 2018 with the mandate to develop and promote an Integrated Aluminium Industry in Ghana.

The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources also indicated the importance of the aluminum industry to industrialization and the overall development of the country.

“We cannot develop without an industrialized economy and you cannot also industrialize if you do not have an integrated and developed bauxite and aluminium industry, it’s just not possible”.

Mr. Samuel Jinapor also asserted that;the integration aspect of the industry is one that is of paramount interest to the;President and therefore charged the board to do all it takes to ensure the retention of the full value chain of bauxite resources in the country.

Board assures of its commitment

Dr. Gyasi further assured the Minister of the commitment of the Board;to ensure that the vision of the President in building a full value chain for the aluminum industry is realized.

He therefore craved the support of the Honorable Minister;to push against the existing push backs which will deprive the good people of Ghana of their resources.

The other Board members include George Mireku Duker, a Deputy for Lands and Natural Resources, Mr. Michael Ansah, the CEO of GIADEC, Martin Kwaku Ayisi, Minerals Commission Representative, Hon. Abena Osei-Asare, Jaezi Orleans-Linsey Esq, Dr. Henry Benyah, Nana Adutwumwaa Dokua-Okyehemaa, Nana Amampene Boateng Twum II (Nyinahinhene) and a representative from the Integrated Aluminum Industry.

This comes after Ghana Bauxite Company (GBC),;the sole producer of Ghana’s bauxite and the Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation;(GIADEC) came to a crossroad in determining the future of Ghana’s production of bauxite.

This follows the planned exit of Bosai Minerals Group,;the majority shareholder of the Ghana Bauxite Company (GBC),;which commands 80 per cent stake of the Awaso bauxite mine.

This, therefore,; has left GIADEC which controls the remaining 20 per cent of the Ghana Bauxite Company to decide on buying all of the stake or not.

However,;the industry awaits a decision on the matter as the government indicates it needs a two month-period to take its decision.
