Ghana.gov is Serving its Purpose – FNB Boss

Mr. Dominic Adu - CEO, First National Bank Ghana (FNB)

Mr. Dominic Adu, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of First National Bank Ghana (FNB), has disclosed that the Ghana.gov payment platform continues to help citizens to pay for services from various government agencies.

FNB has been onboarded to act on behalf of the Government of Ghana (GoG) to receive funds for government services via the Ghana.gov platform.

“Having plugged into the platform, we are now able to offer our customers and the general public a wide range of options in terms of payments for goods and services from government ministries and agencies.

“All our branches are now receiving payment for administrative fees, levies, rates, taxes and other revenues to the various ministries, departments, agencies and Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assembles (MMDAs) listed on the platform.”

Mr. Dominic Adu

FNB’s CEO praised the GoG for implementing the Ghana.Gov platform. He stated that the platform is very easy to manage and it is a significant intervention for Ghana’s economic system.

He stated that the provision of “one platform to streamline transactions, ranging from simple to complex is no easy task”.

“When it comes to digitising such payments and moving away from the paper cheque, it may seem hard because it involves some level of complexity and tech heavy-lifting.

“But it gets much easier when the platform delivers clear digital workflow processes around those complexities.”

Mr. Dominic Adu

The system makes sure that people engaged in the transaction, have authorised the payment, and that the “money will go where it’s supposed to go”.

Mr. Adu remarked, “I believe this is a hallmark of the Ghana.gov platform, and we all need to embrace the good of it”.

The Ghana.gov platform

Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, launched the digital platform that will provide a single point of access to government services.

The launch of the platform is part of the government’s grand vision to digitise the economy and modernise transactions between citizens and the state.

The Ghana.Gov platform, according to the Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, is a one-stop platform that will enable citizens to easily access government services.

Ghana.gov, as the Vice President described, will simplify payments for public services, ensure prompt payments for the services and promote transparency and visibility of internally generated funds.

This single payment access and revenue collection platform is estimated to boost revenue collection to about GH¢3billion annually.

Also, the platform will significantly save citizens the hassle of commuting for long hours to join long queues to pay for government services.

This digital payment innovation solution will help Ghana to derive several benefits and save the country GH¢250 million every year, the Vice President revealed.

Also, Gift Oware-Aboagye, the Deputy Executive Director of the National Service Scheme (NSS), in a statement, encouraged user-agencies to adopt the use of Ghana.gov payment platform.

“Management by this statement urges all user-agencies and other stakeholders to adopt the Ghana.Gov payment platform and comply with this new directive.”

Gift Oware-Aboagye

This platform, Ms Oware-Aboagye revealed, presents “an easier, hassle-free, transactional experience as we all contribute to enabling the government of Ghana to fulfil its goal of creating a cash-lite economy”.
