Kissi Agyeben Taking Steps to Stop Unnecessary Expenditure- Citizen Dadzie

Development Consultant, Citizen Ato Dadzie

Development Consultant, Citizen Ato Dadzie, has intimated that he is happy the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyeben, is taking steps to stop the unnecessary expenditure being required by state. He stated that Lawyer Kissi Agyeben dropping Mahama Ayariga’s case gives him a clear way forward to deal with substantive issues and focus on saving the public purse.

Commenting on the Special Prosecutor dropping Mr. Ayariga’s case,;he averred that the move will save the country some unnecessary expenditure that has been pumped into the case. He urged the Special Prosecutor to follow up with the financial loss the case has caused the state.

“I think this thing is an indictment on the former Special Prosecutor. I feel like he is a Special Prosecutor who did nothing. It’s unfortunate that all the time that he spent in office,;there was only this case and this too did not go anywhere”.

Citizen Ato Dadzie

Citizen Dadzie moreover, urged the Special Prosecutor to stay focused in his line of work and not be deterred by what is said about his work.

“In the end we will judge him by the work he does and I am sure because of that, he would have to select cases which cuts across. We want cases that we will feel the resolution of it as a country”.

His comments follow Lawyer Kissi Agyeben’s decision to drop charges against Mahama Ayariga and Kenrick Akwasi Marfo,;a car rental dealer,;for allegedly using his public office for private benefit in the purchase of brand new and second-hand Toyota Landcruiser vehicles on Monday, 11th October, 2021.

SP separating chaff from main issues

Also contributing to the discussion,;Dennis Mireku Aboagye,;MP for Akuapim North asserted that he is not surprised the new Special Prosecutor is beginning to cross out some of the old cases. He described him as an acting Special Prosecutor who has started separating the chaff from the concrete issues to bring some clarity in the country.

That notwithstanding,;he averred that the former Special Prosecutor should not be blamed entirely for not handling the Ayariga case well. He explained that lawyers don’t always go into cases being sure they are going to win.

“Let’s also be fair to Martin Amidu;because we have seen lawyers with very good cases and solid evidence lose cases. We’ve seen some lawyers go without,;with little evidence and come out with good arguments”.

Ayariga’s lawyer thanks SP

Meanwhile, Lawyer for Mahama Ayariga,;Member of Parliament (MP) for Bawku Central, has thanked the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, for dropping charges against the MP. Also

Lawyer Godwin Edudzie Tameklo also said in line with the processes of discovery, the prosecution shared with them the evidence they intended to tender, which included letters from the Societe’ Generale Bank. He also said the letter indicated that it was a car loan payable through deductions from the MP’s salary,;adding there was evidence that the Bank had started its deductions.

“The new Special Prosecutor,;in his good conscience,;decided to file a Nolle Prosequi and he rightly indicated that evidence of standards in criminal cases is to prove beyond reasonable doubt. We are grateful to the SP for allowing fairness to prevail and to the court for upholding justice”.
