Arise Ghana, a pressure group, has announced that it has concluded modalities with the Police over its planned demonstration scheduled to take place on June 28 and 29.

Arise Ghana

Arise Ghana, a pressure group, has announced that it has concluded modalities with the Ghana Police Service over its planned demonstration scheduled to take place on June 28 and 29.

According to the group, there is no gainsaying the fact that Ghana is in “deep crises and urgently requires a rescue”. It noted that the demonstration will offer it the opportunity to register its displeasure over certain issues in the country.

“The leadership of ARISE-GHANA has finalized its official engagements with the Ghana Police Service over our impending demonstration… The demonstration will be held on 28th and 29th June, 2022.”

Arise Ghana

Contained in a statement signed by a leading member of the group, Comrade Bobie Ansah, it revealed that the purpose of the demonstration is to among other things protest against persistent and astronomical hikes in fuel prices by the Akufo-Addo government. Arise Ghana explained that the hikes have imposed “excruciating economic hardships” on Ghanaians.

Additionally, the group highlighted that it will protest against the imposition of the obnoxious E-Levy on the already-burdened Ghanaian people by the “insensitive” government and “demand a full scale and bi-partisan parliamentary probe into COVID-19 expenditures”.

“… [We shall] protest against the grabbing of State lands by officials of the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government, particularly the de-classification of huge portions of the Achimota Forest reserve. Protest against the increased rate of police brutalities and state-sponsored killing of innocent Ghanaians, as well as the growing culture of human rights abuses under the watch of President Akufo-Addo and Alhaji Bawumia.”

Modalities for planned demonstration

To make its demonstration successful, Arise Ghana called on all “progressive forces and patriotic Ghanaians” to come out in their numbers for this historic demonstration. This, it emphasized, will mark the beginning of a new paradigm in the destiny of the country.

Highlighting on the modalities agreed with the Police for the demonstration, Arise Ghana revealed that the demonstration begins on the first day, 28th June, 2022, at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle Interchange/ Obra Spot, where members and supporters shall converge between the hours of 12PM and 3PM. From there, the group will “move through the Nima Police Station street to the Arko-Agyei inter-change and end at the Frontage of the Jubilee House” where it will picket until 10PM.

“On the second day, 29th of June 2022, we shall converge at the El-wak sports stadium at 12PM and move on to the Lands Commission road to the Liberation road all the way to the Ministry of Finance, where a petition would be presented to the Minister for Finance. From the Ministry of Finance, we shall move to the frontage of the Parliament House of Ghana, where we shall present a petition to the Speaker.”

Arise Ghana

On May 25, 2022, Arise Ghana, at its maiden press conference, expressed that government is gradually making Ghana a failed state.

Speaking at the conference, Mordecai Thiombiano, General Secretary of the group, demanded that government should not only withdraw E.I 144 and bring an end to the land grabbing at the Achimota Forest Reserve, but it should also repeal the Electronic Transaction Levy.
