Aspiring National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Stephen Asamoah Boateng, popularly known as Asabee, has revealed that he has a clear plan on what to do to win the chairmanship of the party.
According to him, one of his focus will be to get more seats for the party at the parliamentary level, going beyond the opposition NDC’s number of seats in the House. He assured that he will win some 51 more seats for the NPP in the 2024 elections should he become the Chairman of the party.
“The NDC won 51 seats with less than three thousand votes. I am targeting all of them. One of them is Sene West where they won with 16, we should overturn it; so I am targeting it. Another is Pusiga, they won with 63, I am targeting it and Banda. So, I have a clear idea what to do to win power. I am targeting 170 seats in Parliament. In fact, four in Volta Region and four in Oti.”

Commenting on his chances of winning the elections, Mr Boateng revealed that he has the best chance when it comes to winning the New Patriotic Party Chairmanship race. He noted that he has carefully thought about his chances of winning and thinks he “stands tall above the rest”.
He indicated that he has outlined seven strategies he would use to break the eight, which he says none of his competitors have so far provided. He further highlighted that amongst his competitors, he has the edge in going up against the NDC.
“… I know the NDC better. My colleagues have said to them that they should have let me go and they should not have competed. I have told them, I am a field commander and an organiser in a way, so I am going to be a chairman-organiser combined.”

Bawumia’s flagbearership position
Meanwhile, the aspiring national chairman has dismissed claims that he has declared support for Vice-President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, for the flagbearer position of the New Patriotic Party. He expressed that contrary to claims, he is rather neutral and in support of unity within the party.
“No way! No way! I have not said anything. I am backing the party as a strong united force and then whoever the party wants to lead us. My job as a chairman is to work with all of us to make him the President. I am neutral.”

Mr Boateng explained that as a party seeking to break the eight, the people vying to be flagbearers of the party must sacrifice their ambition for one candidate.
“I have actually proposed something to the delegates and if they buy it, I will take it to the National Council. I believe it is history to be made, I mean no party has crossed three elections and we want to break it and that calls for huge sacrifices. I think they are all brothers and they can be talking, and some of them can sacrifice their ambitions and give it to one person.”
