British actor, Daniel Kaluuya will not be reprising his role in Marvel and Disney’s ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’.

Sources close to the project revealed that Kaluuya was asked to return, but had already committed to star in Jordan Peele’s upcoming horror film, ‘Nope’. It is worth mentioning that Kaluuya was Oscar-nominated for his starring role in Peele’s 2017 hit ‘Get Out’.

Meanwhile, production on ‘Wakanda Forever’, directed by Ryan Coogler, wrapped in March, and the film is set to debut on November 11, 2022. Following the death of Boseman in 2020, Marvel decided not to recast the role of T’Challa. The sequel will instead explore other characters from the world of ‘Black Panther’, while also honoring the legacy Boseman left behind.

Though it had been confirmed that original film stars Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, and Angela Bassett would return, Kaluuya’s status in the second film had been unclear until now.

Kaluuya played W’Kabi in 2018’s ‘Black Panther’, the best friend and confidant to T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman), and the head of security for the Border Tribe.

Daniel Kaluyaa has become the first black Briton to win an award at the just-ended 93rd Oscars. This follows Daniel emerging

‘Wakanda Forever’ also stars Dominique Thorne as a genius inventor, as well as Michaela Coel and Tenoch Huerta in undisclosed roles.

Kaluuya is currently gearing up for the release of ‘Nope’ on July 22. The sci-fi horror film stars Kaluuya alongside Keke Palmer and Steven Yeun. The story of the movie follows residents of an isolated town who witness a mysterious event involving a UFO and set out to investigate it.

Daniel Kaluuya Almost Quit Acting

Since Daniel Kaluuya’s breakout role in 2018’s ‘Get Out’, he has won an Oscar, a BAFTA, Golden Globe, and SAG awards, plus been nominated for an Emmy. However, Kaluuya recently admitted that he was on the verge of quitting acting altogether if it had not been for ‘Get Out’ writer-director Jordan Peele.

In an interview, Kaluuya told Peele for the first time that after starring in the 2011 ‘Fifteen Million Merits’ episode of ‘Black Mirror’ he had trouble landing other parts.

“When you (Peele) reached out to me and we had that Skype, I was really disillusioned with acting. I had stopped acting for like a year and a half. I checked out, because I was just like, this isn’t working. I wasn’t getting roles, because of racism and all this kind of stuff. So, you reaching out was like, ‘Okay, I’m not crazy. It’s proper. It’s going to be all right.'”

Peele, speaking on the issue, explained that Kaluuya’s performance in ‘Black Mirror’ was an “undeniable audition” for ‘Get Out’ and proved Kaluuya was a “tour de force”.

“I knew that as a performer you embodied the spectrum of somebody who could play small and subtle. Someone we would root for, but who also had an explosive side and an ability to access certain deranged elements in your psychology. I already knew I wanted you for the film — but you blew me away in the audition, and now here we are”.
