As part of the Bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility, the 2021/2022 National Service staff of Cal bank PLC has renovated part of the Ghana Blind Union Facility (GBU).

In a short ceremony to hand over the refurbished facility to GBU, the Head of People and Culture at Cal bank PLC, Samuel Kwame Boafo, stated that the bank has a core value to be responsible and committed in delivering of its products and services with a sound financial, social and ethical practices.

“For us as an institution, this is another manifestation of the core values that we have at the bank which is entrusting us to be more responsible where ever we find ourselves. Hence the initiative by the service people is just a manifestation of what we live with and go by our Cal banking; entrusting an employee to be very responsible.

“It is said that to whom much is given much is expected, and these are service persons out of their menial allowances put this together to help make their work easier. The little that they expect from the GBU management is to ensure that they put the facility into a very good use.

“Doing this will help the facility last for a long period so that most students will benefit from it, and based on how it is handled, we can also go back to the larger employee for more contributions to assist them the more.”

Samuel Kwame Boafo

On his part, President of the Cal Bank NSS staff, Godfred Tamakloe, expressed his delight at the opportunity to support a cause that would affect lives positively. He further stated that he finds it joyful touching lives with the little he has.

A Call for More Assistance

Speaking on behalf of the Ghana Blind Union, Abdul Hamid expressed his gratitude to Cal Bank plc for its act of generosity and called upon all private and public institution in Ghana to emulate this example to help the less privileged persons in the society.

“We are thanking you and assuring that we are going to put the facility into good use. We would also maintain the place till we leave here. I hope and pray those who will come after us will also maintain the place.

“I also want to inform you that we still need more; most of my colleagues don’t have the needed technologies for work like laptops, smart phones, and many more. I would plead with you to take this message out there to Corporate Ghana to assist us with the little they can.”

Abdul Hamid

The GBU is a merger of the Ghana Association of the blind and the Ghana Society for the blind.

Cal Bank as part of its business model to be socially accountable to itself, its stake holders, and the public by playing a positive role in the community and consider the environmental and societal impact of its activities and decisions, has contributed towards the refurbishment of the GBU facility.
