Digital Media Strategist and social media coach, Kelly Nii Lartey Mensah, has revealed that the awards exceptional outputs over the years is a result of “science and data”.
This comes after the release of the nomination lists sparked wildfires of opinion on social media among music fanatics about who deserves the nomination and who does not. Most social media users were of the view that some artists on the list do not deserve it and alleged that the list has been rigged.
However, in a Facebook post, Kelly Lartey Mensah explained that the organization does not only use one means of judging who should be on the list. According to him, other factors come to play.
“If YouTube views are required to gain nomination at the 3 Music Awards, like Maame Grace and Akabenezer will win artiste of the year. Some people just talk forgetting that the award thrives on science and data. The science of the awards listing is second to none and the innovation is good for the music industry, not only on Ghana but over the whole continent of Africa”.

Kelly Mensah further explaining noted that the science used by the Board of the 3 Music Awards looks at every aspect of music consumption not only one or two but the whole music consumption enclave. According to him, they consider other music platforms and the total number of airplay an artist has before coming up with the nomination list.
Kelly Mensah indicated that “data varied sources are then analyzed and graded. This is why we have a system of awards”.
“The 3 Music Awards Board and research center look at everything. Mainstream to digital, events and festivals, as well as any other form music is consumed, known to the board. The science means there’s a research and development team who look at the entire consumption biology of music, not just digital, throughout the year”.
