Geoge Quaye, a Ghanaian media personality.

Ghanaian Actor and media personality, George Nii ArmahQuaye, popularly known as Aboagye has said that Honorable Awal Mohammed, who has just been nominated by President Akuffo- Addo, as the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC), is a fine choice.

He made this assertion during an interview session on an Accra-based radio station.

George Quaye opined that Honorable Awal is the best person to take over the MOTAC and that it was a very solid choice since a lot of background research was made before appointing him [Awal] as the Minister.

“For the President to choose Honorable Awal Mohammed as the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture is a fine choice. I think he is the best for this position. If you listened to Showbiz last week, you would realize his name came out quite strongly and the arguments that were made in his favour were pretty solid”.

He went on to intimate that MOTAC is like the face of the country, and as such, it needs to be promoted properly by someone who has expertise in marketing and business development and looking at Honorable Awal’s background he qualifies in every sense.

Citing examples of some past Ministers that have aced in that sector, George asserted that they all had similar traits as Honorable Awal and so with this, he believes Awal Mohammed will also do well.

“You will find the fact that as a sector of that nature, is a sector that is like the face of the country, and from an advertising perspective, you will need someone with an advertising background and business development acumen. When you look through the list honourable Awal Mohammed stood tall.

“Then again if you look back at Ministers that have excelled in that sector, they all have similar traits like that of AwalMohammed. Let us look at Jake Otanka Obetsebi Lamptey, we can go even as far back as Honorable Mike Gizzo, and then you’ll realize that there is the marketing and business sort of acumen among all these people, and I think in that space Honourable Awal Mohammed is the best person”.

Commending Mark Okraku, George Quaye went on further to suggest Mark, to deputize Awal Mohhamed as he[Mark] takes on the creative arts industry bit of the Ministry.

“We all know what Mark has done. He has been very instrumental even in getting the creative arts some COVID support funding… and all the training exercises for the creative arts industry have been championed by him. Look… if even without any power backing him he has been able to achieve this, if there is going to be a deputy for this kind of sector then he [Mark] will be a perfect fit”.

He further lamented that even though names of hardworking people may be suggested, they might get into office and will not be able to do their work properly, because of how politics is being played in this country.

“There are a lot of people who could do this job and do it effectively but a political enclave is a tricky place. We may all be saying Mark, Mark, Mark, today, Mark, gets the job and the nature in which politics in our country is being played might not even allow him to function”.
