Where Did Love Go ?

Nigerian Afrobeats star Tekno is set to release his highly anticipated eight-track EP Where Did Love Go? this Friday, July 3, 2026, marking a fresh chapter in the singer-songwriter’s evolving career.

The announcement, shared widely on social media, features evocative beach-themed artwork depicting the artist with a companion at sunset, signaling themes of love, loss, and emotional reflection.

Born Augustine Miles Kelechi Okechukwu on December 17, 1992, in Bauchi State, Nigeria, Tekno hails from Ebonyi State roots. He emerged in the early 2010s as a versatile talent-singer, songwriter, producer, and performer blending Afrobeats with R&B, hip-hop, and pop elements.

His breakthrough came with the 2013 hit “Duro,” which catapulted him into the spotlight and established him as a key figure in the rising Afrobeats movement.

Tekno’s career trajectory reflects the broader explosion of Afrobeats onto the global stage. Hits like “Pana” became cultural anthems, earning massive streaming numbers and international recognition. His song “Enjoy” even appeared in the Emmy-winning series Ted Lasso, underscoring his crossover appeal.

Beyond solo work, Tekno has made significant contributions as a songwriter and producer, shaping hits for other major artists and helping define the genre’s sound during its formative years of global expansion.

The new EP arrives at a pivotal moment. Described in promotional materials as an eight-song project, Where Did Love Go? follows a series of lead singles including “Bamboo,” “Press Button,” and “Matter.” These tracks have teased a more intimate, mid-tempo exploration of romance, desire, and emotional complexity rather than high-energy club bangers.

Early descriptions highlight Tekno’s signature melodic style—smooth vocals layered over infectious Afrobeat rhythms while leaning into vulnerability and storytelling.

Public Reaction

Industry observers note this as Tekno’s third major full-length release (sometimes referred to interchangeably as album or EP in coverage) and his first under new affiliations, including ties to emPawa Africa, where he serves as both artist and investor.

This positioning suggests strategic growth, combining creative output with business acumen in an increasingly competitive African music landscape.

Fans have reacted enthusiastically to the announcement. Social media buzz includes anticipation for a “Tekno takeover,” with supporters praising his consistency and calling for massive Nigerian backing. Some comments highlight tracks like “Matter,” which listeners have already been spinning heavily.

Others draw parallels to Tekno’s history of delivering relatable love songs that resonate across demographics.

Tekno’s journey has not been without challenges. Reports detail a period of vocal issues that threatened his career, yet he returned stronger, demonstrating resilience that has endeared him further to fans. His ability to balance commercial appeal with artistic experimentation has kept him relevant for over a decade in an industry known for rapid turnover.

From early deals with labels like K-Money Entertainment to collaborations with stars across Africa and beyond, Tekno has built a reputation as a “Golden Boy” of Afrobeats.

The visual rollout for Where Did Love Go? complements the music’s romantic themes. Promotional images show Tekno in creative, behind-the-scenes settings, including shirtless studio shots with camera equipment, emphasizing his hands-on approach to artistry.

The beach cover art evokes escapism and introspection, inviting listeners to ponder love’s fleeting nature amid upbeat yet soulful production.

In the broader context of 2026 Afrobeats, Tekno’s release adds to a vibrant slate of projects. The genre continues dominating charts worldwide, with artists pushing boundaries through fusion sounds and personal narratives. Tekno stands out for his longevity and versatility-he dances, produces, writes, and performs with equal flair.

His work often explores universal themes of relationships, success, and self-discovery, making him accessible to both core African audiences and international listeners.

Pre-save links and streaming platforms are already active, with the project available for anticipation across Apple Music and others. At eight tracks, the EP format allows for a concise, focused listen-ideal for today’s consumption habits while giving ample room for musical depth. Early reviews and fan feedback suggest a “master class in Afrobeats simplicity,” prioritizing groove and emotion over complexity.

As Friday approaches, expectations are high. For an artist who has influenced a generation, this project feels like both a statement and a reset questioning love while celebrating its musical expression.

Where Did Love Go? promises to provide the soundtrack for summer nights and reflective moments alike.
