Ghanaian award-winning dancehall and afrobeats artiste, Shatta Wale has announced that he will soon be retiring from recording albums since he has gathered enough money to start a business.
Taking to his Twitter page, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Shatta Movement noted that his latest album ‘Gift Of God’ album will be his “retirement album”. He also mentioned that the new business he is going to venture into will create employment opportunities for those “who still want to follow the course”.
“THIS #GOGALBUM WILL BE MY RETIREMENT ALBUM. Made enough to go into new businesses and create employment for those who still want to follow the course!
Several netizens and fans have reacted to his post. Some social media users who seem not to be fans of the dancehall king were rejoicing about his retirement. Some averred that “finally the noise making is going to end”. Similarly, some also said, “we are about to stop listening to bad songs. it’s a Grammy for the motherland”. Meanwhile, most Shatta Movement fans are pleading with their leader to reconsider the decision. More so, some explained that Shatta didn’t disclose that he was going to stop doing music entirely. Instead, he wouldn’t put an album together anymore. However, some fans were even suggesting that Shatta Wale is pulling a ‘prank’ on his colleagues and his fans since it’s April’s fool day. Shatta Wale postpones ‘GOG’ album due to COVID
Shatta Wale postponed the release of his ‘GOG’ album in 2020 to this year, after considering the negative impact of the COVID-19. The musician said last year that he would instead be dropping singles. He disclosed that the album was underway, as he and his team were working tirelessly to put a “timeless album” together.
That notwithstanding, during an earlier interview, Shatta Wale disclosed some international artists that he will feature on the album. Shatta wale disclosed that his album is going to be a “world album”. He said, “This is an album where I am going to have a couple of collaborations. People know I create albums without featuring anyone. But this time, I will be featuring artists like Meek Mill, Nicki Minaj, Cardi B, Gramps Morgan, and Vybz Kartel“.
When asked, if he will feature any Ghanaian act on the album, he responded that “In Ghana probably, I might feature a couple, surprise artistes to be precise. People that people might not think I will feature, those are the people I will feature”.
