American rapper, Kanye West is reportedly looking to legally change his name to Ye, according to new legal documents filed in California.
The 44-year-old who doubles as a fashion designer has filed court documents to legally change his name. He wants to get rid of his full name, Kanye Omari West, to just his longtime two-letter nickname, Ye, with no middle name or last name, according to the Los Angeles Superior Court filing.
That notwithstanding, the court documents are dated August 11, 2021, but were not sent into the court system until recently and cited “personal reasons” for Kanye’s decision to change his name.
Kanye West has been calling himself Ye on his social media pages for years, and first revealed he wanted the change of name in 2018 when he tweeted: “the being formally known as Kanye West. I am YE.”
It can be recalled that ‘Ye’ was the title of Kanye West’s 2018 album, and he said in interviews that as well as an abbreviation of his forename, it is also a word used throughout the Bible.
Kanye told Big Boy while they were in Wyoming for the listening party for ‘Ye’: “I believe ‘Ye’ is the most commonly used word in the Bible, and in the Bible, it means ‘you. So, I’m you, I’m us, it’s us. It went from Kanye, which means the only one, to just Ye. Just being a reflection of our good, our bad, our confusion, everything. The album is more of a reflection of who we are”.
The news of the official name change request arrives as the 44-year-old, Kanye West has been gearing up to hold another ‘Donda’ listening party at Chicago’s Soldier Field this coming Thursday, August 26.
According to some reports, the upcoming event will not require attendees to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test upon entry. The album listening event will also feature a recreation of Ye’s childhood home that will be positioned in the middle of the stadium.
Well, Kanye West has been holding a series of stadium listening parties for his much-hyped forthcoming album ‘Donda’, which is scheduled to be released before the end of August.
It can be recalled that the Vaultz Media recently reported that Kanye West had made himself at home in Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium as he finished the record.
Speaking of Ye’s 10th studio album, no official update on when ‘Donda’ will hit streaming services has been released.
‘Donda’, named in tribute to his late mother, is a follow-up to his 2019 gospel album Jesus is King, which won the best contemporary Christian music album at the Grammys earlier this year.
Meanwhile, the rapper is still in the midst of a divorce from reality television star, Kim Kardashian West, whom he married in 2014 and shares children North,7; Saint, 5; Chicago, 3 and two-year-old Psalm.
West did not ask that his estranged wife’s name be changed back to just Kardashian when she filed to split from him in February this year.
