South African actress and singer, Rosemary Zimu has opened up on what motivated her to go into acting.

According to her, if she pursued a career in acting solely to improve her finances, she would be struggling.

The actress, widely known for playing the character ‘Zinhle’ in Netflix’s South African hit series; ‘Savage Beauty’, made this known while reacting to a question about how fulfilling acting has been to her.

“I have never felt like acting is not fulfilling to me at all. Whether financially or for me as a person, I didn’t choose acting, acting chose me and that was clearly for a reason.

“So, I know that God will never put me in a place where I will suffer forever. After a little suffering, I know that something great is coming. If I were doing it for the finances, I think I’d be struggling, but I’m not doing it for that so that’s why they come as an extra.”

The South African actress also provided some insight into how she ended up as an actress.

Rosemary Zimu added that she had to undergo rigorous physical training to prepare her for some of the scenes in the movie.

“I had never fought before, never held a sword before, and now I had to go into training to ensure I was fit enough to keep up with Chris Attoh.”

The South African actress, who is also known for her roles in movies including Savage Beauty and Guarded, maintains that she’s always up to the task, expressing appreciation for her maker who makes her journey easier. “I know God will never put me in a place where I’ll suffer forever,” Rosemary stated.

‘Nine’, directed by celebrated Ghanaian actor Chris Attoh, is a movie that features a diverse group of talented actors from Ghana, South Africa, Nigeria, and the US including Damien Smith, Adjetey Annan, Kate Henshaw, Fred Amugi, Juliet Ibrahim, Adjetey Anang, Zynnel Zuh, Sika Osei, Gideon Kojo Boakye, Ijeoma Grace Agu, Pascal Aka, and Darlyn Adu-Gyamfi.

In an industry often defined by competition, Rosemary Zimu stands as a passionate advocate for the power of women supporting women.

With an unwavering belief in collective strength, she’s dedicated to fostering a culture of collaboration, unity, and women rising together in the entertainment industry.

Motivated by a passion for theatre, singing and acting from a young age, Rosemary Zimu launched her career in 2014 at age 21 with the South African film, ‘Champagne’, going on to feature in many series and soap operas.

In 2022 Rosemary landed a major role as Zinhle in Netflix’s Savage Beauty, about to return in its second season. Zimu never feels rushed in her career.

“This feeling has never plagued me, and it never will because I’m surrounded by industry veterans who have remained relevant throughout my lifetime. They’ve imparted to me the key to their relevance: kindness above all.

“I am also constantly learning and challenging myself, staying prepared and camera-ready for any opportunity. Additionally, I attribute my youthful appearance to God and my mom for the genes, they’ve blessed me with a childlike energy that starts from within and keeps me looking and feeling young.”

Rosemary Zimu

On the negative views around women and ageing, she says she doesn’t let them affect her.

“I’m so childlike; I don’t see myself as the age I am now. Even when I audition, they ask me to try out for both 25-year-old and 35-year-old roles, because I can play both. I see that as a blessing.

“I don’t have to worry about staying young to play younger roles, or feeling I need to play all the young roles before moving on to older ones. Whatever comes my way, I can do it.”

Rosemary Zimu

According to her, she gets excited when she gets to play someone’s mom. “I love kids, and it’s a nice change from playing someone’s side chick or a young, unfocused character,” she added.
