Singer Tom Jones was forced to cancel a concert in Budapest at short notice amid reports he had collapsed an hour before the gig was due to take place.
Singer Sir Tom, who is 82, is said to have been taken ill at the Hungarian capital’s MVM Dome. He is currently touring Europe with his ‘Surrounded by Time’ tour.
However, according to some reports, paramedics were called for Tom as a source told local media that “Tom Jones collapsed, so his concert was canceled tonight and doctors were called to the stadium. His management has set August 16th as the new date for the concert”.
The ‘She’s A Lady’ hit singer had planned to go ahead with the performance. But, after a visit from a private doctor, he was forced to cancel the gig moments before it was due to take place according to some reports.
Local news outlets reported that an ambulance was called for Tom and a spokesperson for Tom’s ‘Surrounded by Time’ tour is said to have confirmed he had been taken ill.
Meanwhile, Sir Tom has denied collapse rumors and instead revealed he was diagnosed with viral laryngitis which led to the show being postponed.
Two nights before, Tom had performed in Barcelona, Spain, and shared an image of himself singing on his Instagram. He wrote in the caption: “Barcelona… you brought the fiesta and color to our show last night! Thank you!”
Places Sir Tom is expected to tour
Singer Tom’s ‘Surrounded By Time’ tour has a number of dates in the UK including Glasgow, Manchester, London, and Birmingham. The European and US tour has 50 dates scheduled. He is due to play in Germany, Croatia, Italy, Luxembourg, Norway, and Belgium over the coming weeks.
Next month, Tom is expected to return to the UK before traveling to the United States of America for more scheduled concerts. Tom will complete the tour in October, with a final gig in San Francisco.
Weeks ago in June, Tom was invited by band Stereophonics to support the band on their Cardiff show.
The band’s lead singer, Kelly Jones, who hails Tom as a “second father”, joked that the show was a chance for him to give Tom his crockery back.
“It’s for the Welsh people, something for them to look forward to and celebrate – and he said he was bang up for it. It was also an excuse for me to take his plate back because he gave me a pudding that night watching the football, a brownie at one o’clock in the morning, and I never took his plate back”.
Ahead of the concert, Tom shared a snap of himself with the Stereophonics frontman on Instagram and wrote in the caption: “Wales we can’t wait to perform for you! Who’s coming to see us @principalitysta this weekend?! @stereophonicsofficial #cardiff”.
