Several showbiz personalities have commented on a viral blackout at the Tema General Hospital shared on social media platforms.

While the general sentiment is disgust at the state of affairs as it impacts the lives of newborns at the facility, there is also a concern about the impact of rolling power outages.

Among those reacting on social media platforms are movie producer Yvonne Nelson, rapper Sarkodie, broadcaster Bridget Otoo, and singer Keche.

Michael Owusu Addo, also known as Sarkodie, described the state of affairs as a case of “misplaced priorities” by the people in charge while reacting to a viral video of the power outage at the Tema General Hospital.

There is a growing critique of the Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo-led government following the viral video where medics and mothers grapple with taking care of babies in the dark using phone lights.

Sarkodie in reacting to the situation posted the video on his Instagram story and bemoaned the situation. “The impact when we misplace priorities. We pray for these innocent babies,” he wrote.

Actress and movie producer, Yvonne Nelson has joined the growing list of public personalities lamenting the effect of rolling power blackouts on healthcare delivery.

Commenting on the video via X (formerly Twitter) Yvonne labelled Ghanaian leaders as wicked before asking how the president manages to sleep amid such incidents.

“I don’t even know what to type. Our Leaders are WICKED. @NAkufoAddo how do you sleep at night? 8 years of lies. #DUMSORMUSTSTOP,” her caption read.

In a mixture of fury and disappointment, Ghanaian musician, Keche took to social media to share his barrage of concerns over the issue, which according to him is fast becoming a menace.

“I see something online right now, I’m weak. A whole Tema General Hospital doesn’t have a generator. They experienced lights out and there’s no generator. I’m in shock! Kids and newborn babies who are on oxygens are dying. Light out and no generator. A whole Tema General Hospital? So, it means if someone is undergoing surgery and there’s a blackout, the person can die in the process. I’m shocked.

“What is this? So, who is in charge? People are paying money, so they can’t just have some generator somewhere which automatically brings lights on when light goes off ?”

Metro TV presenter Bridget Otto shared the viral video on X with the caption, “This is even tough to watch. I hope they are all safe.”

‘Dumsor’ Claims Life Of Newborn

At the post-delivery ward, the hot room was filled with the sounds of newborn cries. Their mothers cradled their precious bundles and fervently fanned their babies, seeking relief from the oppressive heat that engulfed the room.

Amidst the chorus of cries, babies protested the sweltering conditions, their tiny voices adding to the symphony of sounds that filled the ward.

Yet, despite the heat and the challenges they faced, the mothers remained resilient. Together, they weathered the discomfort, finding solace in the shared experience of motherhood and the unbreakable bond between parent and child.

A frustrated mother who had had enough of the heat blurted out, “The President must see this. I hope no one will victimize me for expressing myself.”

With tender words of solace, a man consoles his grieving sister at Tema General Hospital. His sister, Zainabu Eliasu, suffered the devastating loss of her newborn baby. As tears stream down her face, she tries to maintain composure, but the weight of her loss is palpable.

“My sister came to deliver here. The baby was in an incubator, but because of the erratic power cuts, she has lost her baby,” her brother Mohammed reveals, his voice heavy with anguish.

Amid unimaginable heartbreak, Mohammed stands steadfast by his sister’s side, offering not only his physical support but also his unwavering faith in a higher power. Though the pain is immense, they try to manage their emotions but they are swaddled in sadness.

Mohammed mentioned that his sister’s baby died shortly after the power was restored. With no health worker explaining why the baby died, he suspects that the stress induced by the power outage and its detrimental effects may have contributed to the tragic outcome.

“Why can’t a big hospital like this one have a good generator? God will punish them,” he cried out.
