Nana Boakye Yaw Ababio has reacted to reports of social media commentator, Twene Jonas, insulting the Asantehene.

Otumfuor Osei Tutu II in a collage with Twene Jonas.

The New York Asante Chief, Nana Amaning-Ampong, has disclosed that social commentator, Twene Jonas, has been reported to the police, over reports that he has insulted the Asantehene.

Speaking during an interview, he stated that he wants Twene Jonas to retract and apologize for insulting the Monarch.

“We have to defend the Asante Kingdom… we have filed a police case against him… I want Twene Jonas to come and explain himself and apologize to Asantehene”.

During the interview, he disclosed that Asantehene has not called him to complain;nor asked him to take any action, however according to Nana Amaning-Ampong, it is the responsibility;of people like him to defend the Asante Kingdom.

Speaking further, he added that “He should use the same medium he used to insult to apologize. I pity his mother and family; I don’t know if he has any. if he has any then I pity them because they should talk to;him to apologize to Asantehene so that we end this matter”.

According to him, if Jonas comes to see him, he would;show him the way to handle this issue in the best way.

Nana Amaing-Ampong in expressing disappointment in the way;Jonas criticizes Ghanaian leaders said: “if you want to make a name, it’s not by;making a foolish name like this”.

He also expressed his willingness to help Twene Jonas visit Ghana to apologize to the Asantehene.

“What we are telling the boy is that he should change, his family must come out to apologize. I’ve tried to reach him so that, if even it is the ticket to fly to Manhyia, I will;pay for that so he that goes to apologize”.

Asked if the curses rained on Jonas aren’t enough, he said “I will leave that to the chiefs because no one has dragged an Asantehene in this kind of disrespectful manner”.

He also noted that this isn’t a fight just between the Otumfuor and Jonas but a fight between the whole Ashanti Kingdom and Twene Jonas, therefore he should be ready for the consequences.

Twene Jonas makes a U-turn

Meanwhile, Twene Jonas has taken a U-turn as he has stated that the insults he rained weren’t directed to the Asantehene. According to him, he was referring to the sub-chiefs.

In the viral video on social media, Jonas claimed that he is rather in support of Otumfuor Osei Tutu II. He also explained that until it is proven that Otumfuor is part of the sub-chiefs who are selling their lands for galamsey, then the insults he rained are directed to the sub-chiefs.

“I am backing Asantehene and I am supporting him… I am only insulting the sub-chiefs; you are the ones who are foolish.  So, until you guys come out to prove that the Asantehene isn’t innocent, then the insult goes to you the sub-chiefs…”

Twene Jonas also explained that Otumfuor won’t get the luxury of time to go to the small towns to sell the lands to illegal miners. According to him, it is the sub-chiefs who are in charge of the lands in those towns. Therefore, his insults are directed to the sub-chiefs and not the Asantehene.
