Fast-rising hip-hop Ghanaian musician, Yaw Tog has set a new record as he is now the first Ghanaian musician to ever reach 1 million streams for his music video on YouTube within the first three days of release.
Yaw Tog posting an excerpt of the music video on Twitter reacted to the development, saying: “A million now #soreremix shouts to everyone supporting the movement all day.”
He has since received so many accolades from fans and netizens. Some even went to the extent of comparing him to Ghana’s ace rapper, Sarkodie. Similarly, others encouraged him to work harder and leverage this opportunity to gain more heights. Some reactions from his post read:
ABOUT THE ‘SORE’ MUSIC
Last year, the 19-year old broke through the proverbial mold with ‘Sore’ (rise up), which featured his ‘Asakaa’ colleagues, O’Kenneth, City Boy, Reggie, and Jay Bhad. It is worth noting that the song charted at number 92 on ‘Muse Bangers of the Year 2020’. That notwithstanding, Yaw Tog later remixed his song with British-Ghanaian hip hop rapper, Stormzy and Ghanaian award-winning hip hop artist, Kwesi Arthur. They later shot a video for the song and it has now garnered one million views with over six thousand comments on the video streaming site.
Directed by Koo Poku Studios, the accompanying visual somewhat matches that of the original, with the artists mobbing heavy in different locations around their neighborhood. It’s all quite reminiscent of the clips typically seen from American artists; a massive crew dancing and partying to the music in support of the main star.
Meanwhile, Yaw Tog is dropping his debut EP, TIME, on March 25.

THE BIG DEAL
It can be recalled that Yaw Tog in a recent interview said that featuring the A-list artists on the remix song was a “big deal”.
“It was a big deal for me. Even now, I can’t express how I feel about it. For the pedigree of who Stormzy and Kwesi are and everything they have done, it’s a great feeling for sure, and it’s always love for Stormzy and Kwesi from me.

Sharing how his life changed following the popularity of his song, ‘Sore’ Yaw Tog noted that it’s been all good even though he has now become restricted from doing certain things he used to freely do when he wasn’t famous.
“It’s been great on one hand, but also my life has changed! There’ve been many things that have just happened for me since that time that I am still processing. These days, I can’t even do the normal things I used to do before because people recognize me. It’s a little stressful, but I’m managing it as best as I can”.
