President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo has urged all Ghanaians to maintain unity as the nation enters a new chapter in its democratic journey, marked by the ongoing transition of power to the incoming government.
He emphasized the importance of upholding the core values of respect, tolerance, and collaboration, which he described as essential traits that define the Ghanaian identity.
The President urged citizens to work together, regardless of political differences, to foster national cohesion and sustain the country’s democratic progress.
“This morning, I welcomed President-Elect John Dramani Mahama to Jubilee House. Our meeting was cordial, reflecting the spirit of unity and respect that binds us as Ghanaians, regardless of political differences.
“As leaders, our ultimate responsibility is to serve the people of Ghana and ensure a seamless transition for the benefit of our beloved nation. We discussed critical national matters and reaffirmed our commitment to working together to preserve the peace, stability, and progress that Ghana continues to enjoy”.

The President expressed his hope for a functional and effective democratic state under the incoming NDC-Mahama administration.
He envisions a government that upholds the will of the people, respects human rights and operates within the rule of law.
He emphasized the importance of creating an environment where all Ghanaians feel safe, protected, and secure in their daily lives.
The President called for a governance approach that prioritizes justice, equity, and the collective well-being of citizens, fostering trust and confidence in state institutions.
President Akufo-Addo disclosed that he and the President-elect held discussions on the ongoing post-election violence, commending John Mahama for his proactive efforts to address the situation.
He praised Mahama for his leadership in calming tensions by directly engaging with the nation and promoting peace and stability.
Akufo-Addo further revealed that their conversation on the transition of power was both constructive and productive.
He expressed optimism that the smooth transfer of authority would reinforce Ghana’s democratic credentials and ensure continuity in governance, emphasizing the need for collaboration and mutual respect throughout the process.
Mahama Announces Joint Transition Team
Meanwhile, President-elect John Dramani Mahama announced that later today, December 11, 2024, his office, in collaboration with the Office of the President, will officially inaugurate the Joint Transition Team.
The team will oversee the smooth transfer of power to the incoming administration, ensuring continuity and stability in governance.
Mahama highlighted that during his transition meeting with President Akufo-Addo, they discussed key national issues, with the President providing a detailed briefing on the country’s security situation and the current state of the economy.
“I responded to President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo’s invitation for a courtesy visit to the Presidency this morning to begin the transition process.
“I also expressed my sincerest appreciation to the President for his phone call on Monday to congratulate me. It was a good mark of statesmanship, giving me a sense of déjà vu”.

President-elect, John Mahama, further emphasized that the true winners of the electoral process are Ghana and its enduring democracy.
He noted that, despite widespread anxieties and uncertainties leading up to the election and voting day, Ghanaians have once again demonstrated their commitment to democratic values.
Mahama commended the electorate for their patience, resilience, and belief in the democratic process, highlighting that the peaceful conduct of the election reaffirms Ghana’s position as a beacon of democracy in Africa.
He expressed hope that this achievement would inspire continued national unity, trust in state institutions, and a shared commitment to good governance. “We can be sure that our democracy is safe…”
Mahama emphasized that fostering bipartisan cooperation among political leaders and stakeholders is essential to further strengthening, deepening, and consolidating Ghana’s democratic foundations.
