Member of Parliament for Bantama Constituency, Francis Asenso-Boakye, has called on the general public to disregard allegations made against him by NPP flagbearer hopeful, Kennedy Agyapong.
According to him, the said remarks are to the effect that a certain minister of state from Bantama has told Delegates to vote for Vice-President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to be “elected presidential candidate of the Party.
He further alleged that Kennedy Agyapong stated that this is to help the Vice President become more “attractive to Ghanaians after 4 years of H.E John Mahama’s imminent Presidency”.
Mr Asenso-Boakye revealed that even though Kennedy Agyapong did not explicitly mention his name “purposely”, he’s currently the only minister of state from Bantama, so he reasonably assumed he’s referring to him.
“My attention has been drawn to some regrettable remarks made by Hon Kennedy Agyepong, Member of Parliament for Assin Central and aspiring presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party at a rally held in Accra on Saturday, 16th September, 2023… I urge all to disregard it and focus instead on building unity that will serve as the bedrock for winning the 2024 election.”

Furthermore, Mr Asenso-Boakye, who doubles as the housing minister noted that this “blatant lie” is not only “ludicrous but also politically puerile”.
To this end, he stated that the NPP Government is deeply committed to working hard to improve the wellbeing of Ghanaians and by so doing, earn their continued goodwill.
Additionally, the Bantama legislator stated that the false attribution by Hon Ken Agyepong is clearly a “mischievous lie” deliberately made with the sole intention to cause disaffection for him, “sully my good standing within the party and neutralize” whatever leverage he has on the delegates.
“My view on the NPP presidential primary is widely known to the party members and it’s that; Vice President Mahamadu Bawumia is the extraordinary candidate that the NPP needs to break the ‘eight’.”

In his address to hundreds of supporters on Saturday, September 16 after his unity walk dubbed ‘Showdown Unity Walk’, Mr Agyapong took a swipe at the Bantama MP, albeit not mentioning his name, for canvassing for votes for Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
Kennedy Agyapong on the other hand, firmly rebutted claims that he lacks the intellectual capacity and temperament required to serve as President.
Reaffirming his commitment to lead the NPP in the 2024 elections, he elaborated why he believes he is the most qualified candidate for the role.
Mr Agyapong pointed out that those asserting that he is not presidential material are unaware of the substantial support he enjoys from a laudable group of university professors, lecturers, and professionals who are ready to collaborate with him.
In light of this, he emphasized that these intellectuals, professors, lecturers, and professionals are resolutely convinced that “Kennedy Agyapong has a message” and is the one who can lead the NPP to “break the 8” in the upcoming elections.
Moreover, Mr Agyapong revealed that he has personally met with at least 45 professionals in Accra and has plans to engage with lecturers at KNUST.
He equally noted that these intellectuals recognize and endorse his vision for Ghana, urging Ghanaians to give him the opportunity to lead.
