The Savannah Regional Police Command has disclosed that it has arrested three suspected armed robbers who allegedly shot dead an Accra-based lawyer, Richard Badombia, whiles travelling to Jirapa.
According to the Savannah Regional Police Public Affairs Director, Inspector Owusu Agyekum, the fourth suspect is currently on the run and the police are searching for him.
Inspector Agyekum stated that after the unfortunate incident, the whole Police machinery in the Savannah Region were moved to the place till yesterday, May 29, 2022 in the evening when some persons believed to be the perpetrators were rounded up.
“We are still looking for one man so we are on it. Because of the nature of the activities ongoing, we don’t want to mention names but we are almost close to the area where the person lives currently. Even that is the more reason why yesterday we didn’t come out with anything. We wanted to get all the perpetrators before.”
Inspector Owusu Agyekum
The Public Affairs Director intimated that looking at the circumstances, his outfit can say it was a normal robbery that normally occurs everywhere, but what makes this a little bit different is that, the man was travelling with a bull dog inside his vehicle.
“So, after they shot him, they wanted to go into the vehicle and take whatever they wanted but upon seeing the bull dog and it barking at them, they fled the scene. In that case, they couldn’t take anything from the other occupants or the other victims.”
Inspector Owusu Agyekum
Inspector Owusu Agyekum posited that from the narration of the lawyer’s brother, who was on board, the man lives alone so when he is traveling to his hometown, where he will be out for three days, “he has to carry the bull dog along because there is no one in the house to feed the dog and not that he carried the dog along for protection”.

Police presence effective on highway
Touching on the police presence on that stretch since it’s noted for highway robbery, Inspector Agyekum stated that the presence of the officers is very effective. According to him, between the stretch that the incident happened, the Police has two patrol teams on site.
However, Inspector Agyekum noted that the Police station and the place where the incident happened is quite a distance and as a result, there couldn’t be a swift response when the incident happened.
This arrest came after a lawyer was murdered by suspected armed robbers at a section of the road between Banda Nkwanta and Nuoyiri on the Bole Bamboi highway.
According to reports, the robbers allegedly emerged from the near-by bush and signaled the vehicle in which the lawyer and his relatives were travelling to stop. One of the armed robbers immediately shot dead the driver of the vehicle, Richard Badombia, who is a lawyer with Lartey, Badombia & Co. Associates and reportedly asked whether the passengers on board were police officers.
The reports further disclosed that after shooting the lawyer, the robbers tried to open the doors of the vehicle as the car veered off the road and hit a tree but a bull dog in the car barked at them and they bolted. A report was immediately filed at the nearest Police station, Banda Nkwanta Police Station, which are currently investigating the matter.
