A flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, has called on delegates to look beyond monetary enticement during the November 4 election.

Addressing a press conference to conclude his campaign, Dr Akoto vowed to unite the party. He revealed that along with his team, they have taken his campaign from the smallest hamlets to the biggest cities around the country, and have ensured that their message reaches all 217,000 delegates.

In the course of interactions with the delegates, he noted that he along with his team have learned a lot about the needs and aspirations of members on the ground, and these lessons will serve as the foundation for the reforms he intends to carry out if  he is selected on Saturday.

“Dear delegates, please look beyond any tempting one-off monetary enticements and think about the future of the party, your children, and grandchildren. Stand with me on the great UP tradition on Saturday. In this regard, the party is ensuring that all delegates can attend the voting centers to cast their votes without fear or intimidation.”

Furthermore, Dr Akoto expressed confidence that “monitoring and independent research confirm that victory is on the horizon”. He explained that the emerging trends in the mood of the delegates encourages him to make a passionate appeal to the undecided to vote for me on Saturday.

Additionally, Dr Akoto further urged the delegates to remain steadfast and not be influenced by monetary incentives.

“My appeal to you, delegates, at this stage, is that you should not be tempted by offers that may provide you with one-day relief but leave our party in the sand. Think about the history and tradition of our party and the sacrifices of our forefathers, and vote for Akoto on Saturday.”

Bawumia confident of victory in November 4 election

Meanwhile, Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has revealed that he is the formidable aspirant for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) with the best track record for winning elections.

According to him, he has made some critical contributions to the growth of the NPP over the years. He revealed that he has made sacrifices over the period and proposals to address the concerns of party members.

“Among the four of us competing for flagbearer, I am the aspirant with the best track record in winning elections, having won two on the trot. I am the one with Governance experience, serving as Vice President for two terms. I am the one who can unify all the factions within the party. I am the one who can foster peace and unity between the two main religions in the country. To crown it all, I am the one the NDC fears the most, and with good reason. They know with me as a candidate they will not have a campaign message.”

Dr Bawumia revealed that one of his main priorities when elected is to deepen Party-Government relations. He noted that a key step would be to a large proportion of the already existing appointments made by the President to the Constituencies and Regions directly.

“Therefore, each Constituency would be allocated a minimum of 10 appointments, while every Region would receive 20.”

Furthermore, Dr Bawumia noted that non-MP Appointees would also be assigned as “god-mothers and -fathers” to Constituencies to ensure they work within the Constituencies, with a Welfare Office dedicated to compiling the data and managing the needs of party folk.

With these and some other measures, he explained that the NPP will have a stronger and more united party than before.

Urging delegates to ignore the “lies and propaganda” being shared by his opponents within and without the party, Dr Bawumia said the NPP is uniquely poised to break the mythical ‘8’ with him as candidate, and electing him  as flag bearer would be the best decision the party could make at this time in its history.
