Sekondi Constituency’s Member of Parliament, Andrew Egyapa Mercer, has expressed his belief that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) delegates will give strong backing to Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia during the upcoming Saturday, November 4 elections.

According to the Deputy Energy Minister, Dr. Bawumia is expected to secure an overwhelming 90% of the votes, leaving the remaining 10% to be divided among Kennedy Agyapong and other two candidates.

Emphasizing Dr. Bawumia’s superior standing among the candidates, Mercer highlighted the Vice President’s aptitude and capability to effectively oversee the country’s affairs.

“It is an endorsement for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. We are going to endorse him, he will secure 90 percent of the votes and the rest will share the remaining 10 percent. I’m expecting delegates to give the vice president an overwhelming victory.

“We have spoken to the delegates and we expect them to elect someone who has the capacity to lead the party. That person is the vice president, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.”

Speaking about the presence of Mr. Agyapong in the race, lawyer Egyapa Mercer indicated that he is not the best candidate to lead the party in the 2024 election.

“We are not shaken by the presence of Kennedy Agyapong. We have equally seen the huge crowd of delegates following the Vice President. Kennedy Agyapong is my main man but I don’t think he is the right person to lead the party in 2024.

“We cannot say that there are no challenges in the country, but the best person to manage these challenges properly cannot be Kennedy Agyapong. I do not have any doubt in my mind that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia can best manage the affairs of the country and win the 2024 election for the NPP.”

Kumasi Market Women Endorse Bawumia

Moreover, traders in the Kumasi market have officially thrown their support behind Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s bid to secure the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidacy.

The market women, a significant group in Kumasi, stressed the need for maintaining continuity in the government’s endeavors to protect the rights, safety, and future of the Ghanaian populace. They firmly believe that Dr. Bawumia’s experience as Vice President has equipped him well to guide the nation forward during these challenging times.

“We, the market women in Kumasi, recognise the importance of having a president who is committed to protecting the rights, safety, and future of our people. Bawumia has proven himself as a capable and dedicated leader, and we believe he is the best candidate to continue the good work of the government.”

Sarah Ayensu, a 40-year-old trader at the Kejetia Market and a delegate, said a win for Dr Bawumia will lead to the economic transformation of women in Ghana.

“Bawumia is a father for all. We are for him and Saturday we’ll crown him as our leader. Nothing will stop him.”

In a concluding statement to the press on Thursday, Vice President Bawumia confidently asserted that he is the most qualified candidate among the four contestants to guide the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to success in the 2024 election.

Bawumia expressed his unwavering optimism that party delegates will endorse his leadership following his extensive and productive engagements with them nationwide.

“By the grace of God, l have brought my campaign, the visits to the NPP delegates in their constituencies to an end. Every constituency has been a home for me for the past 15 years, and for this particular campaign, my mission was simple; to let the delegates know why I represent the NPP’s best chance of breaking the 8 in next year’s presidential election, if I am elected the party’s flagbearer.”

Mahamudu Bawumia

The ruling NPP is set to hold its Delegates Elections on Saturday, November 4, to elect a flagbearer and successor to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as leader of the party.

The new flagbearer will face off the NDC’s John Dramani Mahama in the 2024 General Elections.
