President John Dramani Mahama has called on Ghanaians to safeguard the country’s peace and strengthen unity at a time many parts of the world continue to experience conflict, violence, and social division.
Speaking during the National Eid-ul-Adha celebrations at the Black Star Square in Accra, the President said Ghana remains an example of peaceful coexistence among people of different religious and ethnic backgrounds. He noted that Muslims and Christians in the country have shared communities, schools, businesses, and family relationships for generations.
He called on all citizens to continue promoting tolerance, understanding, and mutual respect in order to preserve the country’s stability and social harmony. According to him, national peace can only be sustained when citizens reject actions and ideologies that encourage division.
“I urge all Ghanaians, irrespective of religion or ethnicity, to continue promoting peace, tolerance, understanding, and mutual respect. We must reject extremism, political intolerance, tribal divisions, and all acts that threaten our national unity.”

President Mahama stated that the message of Eid-ul-Adha extends beyond religious observance and should inspire citizens to embrace sacrifice, compassion, humility, and kindness in their daily lives. The President also encouraged Ghanaians to avoid hatred, greed, selfishness, and indifference toward the suffering of others.
“The lessons of Eid-ul-Adha extend beyond the slaughtering of animals. The occasion calls on us to sacrifice, be selfless, don’t hate one another, don’t be greedy, not to divide, and not to be indifferent to each others suffering.”

He stressed that countries facing growing economic and social pressures require stronger compassion and empathy among citizens to maintain stability and national cohesion. He added that development cannot thrive in an atmosphere of hatred, discrimination, and disunity.
His Excellency referenced the example of the Holy Prophet Muhammad, describing his life as one centered on mercy, honesty, humility, justice, and kindness. He said those values should continue to guide efforts toward peaceful coexistence and national unity across the country.
Mahama Announces New Zongo Projects To Improve Living Conditions
President John Dramani Mahama announced that a series of development interventions aimed at improving infrastructure, education, sanitation, healthcare, and economic opportunities in Zongo communities across the country.
The President said government remains committed to addressing challenges confronting densely populated urban communities through targeted investment and social programmes.

He disclosed that road construction and rehabilitation works would soon commence in several Zongo communities as part of efforts to improve living conditions and connectivity in those areas.
President Mahama also announced plans to expand access to secondary education through the construction of modern Community Day STEM schools within densely populated communities.
“So where we have dense Zongo communities or dense urban populations, we’ll put a modern Community Day E-block STEM secondary school in the community so that the children don’t have to travel far away.”

He explained that locating the schools within communities would help improve enrolment and reduce transportation challenges faced by students and parents. The President further commended the Council of Zongo Chiefs for releasing land to support the implementation of some of the projects.
President Mahama additionally disclosed that government is operationalising the Zongo Development Fund and other financing initiatives aimed at supporting small businesses and informal sector operators in Zongo communities.
He noted that the intervention would provide financial support for traders and women engaged in small scale economic activities to help strengthen household incomes and local businesses.
