The Kusag Traditional Council has halted all campaign activities of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) within its jurisdiction.
Zugraan Bawku Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II, the overlord of the Bawku kingdom, issued a statement, warning his subjects against engaging in any NPP campaign activities.
He stressed that participation could have serious consequences for those who defy this directive.
He alleged that the NPP and its presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, are responsible for the recent unrest in Bawku, which has resulted in the deaths of approximately 15 individuals.
Additionally, he accused the NPP flagbearer and the party of being behind Seidu Abagri, who is central to the ongoing turmoil in Bawku and has been implicated in various violent incidents.
“We see Seidu Abagri as a criminal, and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is to be held responsible for the resurgence of the Bawku conflict, which led to the loss of lives and property within this period.
“We call on all our people who are members of the NPP in all the six constituencies of Kusal to suspend all political activities until further notice”.

The statement also called on residents in the six constituencies to refrain from any activities associated with Dr. Bawumia and his political efforts until further notice.
This directive aims to ensure the safety and unity of the community during this tense period.
In this statement, the king conveyed the Kusasis’ decision to suspend all interactions with the Mamprusi community in Bawku across all areas, including commerce and trading.
This suspension also encompasses other forms of engagement, reflecting a commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the region.
He emphasized that this measure is necessary to maintain peace and stability in the region.
This reflects the serious concerns surrounding the ongoing unrest and the need for a collective response to safeguard the interests of the Kusasi people.
Naba Warns of Consequences for Associating with Abagri
Additionally, Zugraan Bawku Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II stated that anyone who enters the house of Seidu Abagri will face the full repercussions from the Kusalis upon leaving.
This warning underscores the seriousness of the situation and the community’s resolve to maintain order and accountability among its members.
He further expressed that the Kusasis would not passively accept the imposition of a king upon them, emphasizing their determination to take every possible measure to protect their land.
The king highlighted that the community stands united in its commitment to safeguarding its rights and ensuring that any leadership reflects the will and wishes of the Kusasi people.
This stance demonstrates their refusal to allow external influences to dictate their governance and future.
“Currently, rumors have it that a state of emergency is likely to be imposed on Bawku through the influence of His Excellency the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to wipe us out in our own land to the satisfaction of his kinsmen.
“Just as indicated earlier, we will not be surprised if this rumor comes to fruition”.
The Kusag Traditional Council
In the statement, the king urged all Kusasis in Kusao and around the world to remain steadfast in their united and legitimate efforts to protect, uphold, and defend their customs, traditions, and dignity as a community.
He emphasized the importance of maintaining their cultural identity in the face of external challenges and urged the Kusasi people to stand firm in their commitment to their heritage.
The statement highlighted that these efforts are essential not only for the preservation of their unique cultural practices but also for the empowerment and unity of the Kusasi people as they navigate the current circumstances. “We have our land and no other tribe, and I repeat, no other tribe can rule us forever and ever”.
