The Former President and the opposition National Democratic Congress flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama has assured residents in Techiman South Constituency that he will investigate and prosecute perpetrators of the violence that transpired during the December 7 2020 polls when elected into office in 2024.

Addressing a gathering of chiefs and residents in Techiman in the Bono East Region as part of his ‘Building The Ghana Tour’, the Former President expressed his regret about the unfortunate incident and pledged his commitment to undertake steps and appropriate measures to identify the persons involved in such conduct and subject them before the laws of the country.

According to the Former President, the next National Democratic Congress administration under him would also ensure that justice are offered to the victims and families of the December 7 2020 shootings in the Techiman South Constituency and other part of the country.

“When a similar incident happened in Ejura, there was a commission of enquiry and compensation has already been paid to people but Techiman has been ignored. That is why when I am elected as president, I will investigate what happened here and ensure that those found culpable are punished and the right thing is done.”

Furthermore, the National Democratic Congress flagbearer accused President Akufo-Addo and the ruling New Patriotic Party of failing to investigate the unfortunate incident and offer the necessary punishment to the perpetrators.

Mr Mahama expressed his disappointment and worry about the inability of President Akufo-Addo and the New Patriotic Party to prosecute persons involved inVthe disturbances and violence during the December 7, 2020, general elections.

‘We all know what happened here in 2020 which led to three of our people dying. When you are elected as president of a nation, you must be president for all. Since the incident happened here, the president and his appointees have failed to apologize for the incident’.

Mahama Pledges To Allow State Institutions To Operate Independently

Meanwhile, the Former President, John Dramani Mahama in other engagements in the same region has assured Ghanaians of subjecting any of his appointees to the laws of the country if they engage in corruption-related activities when elected into office in 2024 as President of Ghana.

According to Mr Mahama, his administration would not shield or protect any government appointees or officials that engage in an act of misconduct and actions that go contrary to the laws of Ghana.

The Former President emphasized that his administration would allow anticraft state institutions such as the Auditor-General, the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice, Office of the Special Prosecutor among others to operate independently without any interference to allow them to investigate government officers or any public officers which shall be involved in corruption-related activities.

He, thus accused President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of covering all his appointees and government officials under the ruling New Patriotic Party of wrongdoing.

“Corruption is getting out of hand under this current administration. The president clears his appointees who are accused of engaging in corruption even before the state institutions investigate the matter. Under My administration, I will not shield any of appointees who will engage in corruption”.

According to Mr Mahama, the conduct of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has undermined the investigative authorities and functions of several state institutions mandated by laws to investigate and prosecute public officers that engage corruption and corruption-related activities.
