John Dramani Mahama Urges Ghanaians To Keep Hope Alive In 2023

Former President, John Dramani Mahama has urged Ghanaians in his new year message to the nation to keep hope alive in 2023.

In his reassuring message, Mahama gives hope to the populace after being confronted with heavy economic battles and instabilities in 2022.

“May this new year open the pathway and bring us to the cusp of building the ‘Ghana We Want’— a Ghana of opportunities for all and one in which our individual and collective aspirations are achieved.”

John Mahama

Our dear nation, Ghana, defaulted on our debt obligations due to reckless binge borrowing over the last few years and have been confronted with unprecedented hardships never seen under this Fourth Republic, the Former President said.

This, he added resulted in the testing of the nation’s democracy and patience to their elastic limits. John Dramani Mahama therefore, in his new year message admonished all Ghanaians to embrace 2023 knowing that a journey of austerity and sacrifice was just beginning.

Despite the economic battering the country has experienced in the past year, the Former President said Ghanaians “cannot give up on dear motherland Ghana” in the face of incoming austerity measures and sacrifices that 2023 ushers in.

“As we face the future with fortitude, let us remember the solemn words of the hymnist, Johnson Oatman Jr, when he urges us to Count Our Blessings and Name Them One by One.”

Ghana Is Fortunate To Have Survived As A Nation

John Dramani Mahama, in continuing said the nation is fortunate to have survived the economic turmoils experienced last year and calls the nation ‘lucky by the grace of the Almighty’ to have been graced to see the dawning of 2023.

“Once we have the gift of life, which is the most important of all, there is opportunity in the new year to be better versions of ourselves and work even harder towards salvaging our dear nation from the avoidable abyss into which she has been plunged.”

Mahama

In his concluding remarks, the Former President wishes the country a year of opened pathway to be able to work collectively at building the ‘Ghana We Want’. He also wished a country full of opportunities for all and that Ghana, becomes a place where individual and collective aspirations are attained.
