Dr. Richard Fiadormor, President of the Chamber of Local Government, indicated that the leaked MMDCEs committee report has put the President in a very tight corner. He explained that now that people know that the President is not bound by the committee’s recommendation, it was improper for the list to have been made public resulting in the current reaction.
Speaking on the leaked report, he called for those who leaked the report of the National Vetting Committee for MMDCEs to be punished. He added that the leakage is what has caused the open disagreements that have greeted the release of the MMDCEs list.
“So now, they have put the President in a very tight corner because the President is not bound to go by the recommendations of the committee. So now that we know that the President is not bound by the recommendations of that committee, it was very improper for the list to have come into the public domain.
“If you look at what happened in Tema Central, it was because in the earlier list everybody saw that one Charles Boateng was the one who has been recommended and the person who has now been nominated came third, so the question is what went wrong? I think that the position they have put the President is most unfortunate. Whoever leaked that particular report must be punished because the position they have put the President is very bad.”

More work has to be done
Dr. Fiadormor further expressed happiness about the fact that the list of the MMDCEs is out and said that beyond the President, there’s a process that the list has to undergo to make sure that the President’s nominees are confirmed. He then indicated that it clearly means that more work will now have to be done after the list release.
“Now it is not about the President any longer, but the people who have been nominated to do what is needful to make sure that they win the heart of the assembly members in their respective districts, so that we can have a smooth sailing endorsement as and when it does begin. It is going to be not less than three weeks for the confirmation to start across the country.”
