The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is ramping up its campaign efforts as both its flagbearer, former President John Draamani Mahama and running mate Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang embarks on a separate regional campaign tour ahead of the December 7 2024 election.

The vice-presidential candidate and running mate to former President John Dramani Mahama embarks on a widely anticipated campaign tour in Ghana’s North East Region.

James Agyenim Boateng, the Spokesperson to the National Democratic Congress Vice Presidential Candidate, in a statement, pointed out that Prof. Opoku-Agyemng on the first day of her campaign will pay courtesy calls to local chiefs, strengthening bonds with traditional leaders.

“The vice presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, is starting a campaign tour of the North East Region today. Prof. Opoku-Agyemang will pay courtesy calls on chiefs and interact with members, supporters and sympathisers of NDC in various constituencies.”

According to him, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang plans to host town hall meetings with NDC members and sympathizers, using these sessions to discuss key policies and respond to locals’ questions about the NDC’s development agenda.

For James Agyenim Boateng, a key focus of her message is job creation, particularly for youth and women, adding that Prof. Opoku-Agyemang is set to highlight the NDC’s comprehensive plan for sustainable job creation, which she has consistently emphasized as a cornerstone of the Mahama administration’s return strategy.

He emphasized that through targeted investments and initiatives, the NDC seeks to restore hope and drive economic empowerment in regions that have been especially impacted by unemployment.

Alongside job creation, James Agyenim Boateng noted that Prof. Opoku-Agyemang will emphasize the NDC’s dedication to enhancing education at all levels.

She is also expected to detail the party’s vision to broaden access to quality education while addressing the specific needs of schools in underserved areas such as the North East and Savanna Regions.

Women’s empowerment is also anticipated to be a central theme in her speeches. Her Spokesperson , James Agyenim Boateng ponited out that Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, known for her commitment to gender equality, will outline how the NDC’s policies will help women achieve financial independence, participate in decision-making, and access various opportunities

In regions where women’s economic participation is often limited by systemic challenges, her message is expected to motivate female constituents to back the party.

This segment of her tour is set to end on Thursday, after which Prof. Opoku-Agyemang will continue her engagements in the Savanna Region on Friday.

According to James Agyenim Boateng, Prof. Opoku-Agyemng’s mission remains to connect with grassroots communities and inspire voters to trust the NDC’s promise of steering the country towards the “Ghana we want”.

Mahama’s Western North Tour

Simultaneously, the National Democratic Congress Presidential Candidate, former President John Dramani Mahama is conducting his campaign in the Western North Region.

According to Joyce Bawah Mogtari, spokesperson for the Mahama 2024 Campaign Team, Mr Mahama is focusing on explaining the NDC’s policies on job creation, education improvement, and agricultural support—topics that resonate with the primarily agricultural communities in Western North.

“We are in the Western North! Looking forward to the next conversations about #MahamaCares. and the #NationBuilders vision for Jobs, employment, education and agriculture for Ghana and for the Western North in particular as Agriculture is the mainstay of the region as we build the Ghana we want with John Mahama”.

The dual efforts of Prof. Opoku-Agyemang in the North East and Savanna Regions and Mr. Mahama in the Western North Region are strategically planned to maximize the NDC’s outreach and ensure that voters nationwide are well informed of the party’s policy commitments.
