The Functional Executive of the opposition National Democratic Congress has referred the Odododiodio Constituency Parliamentary disturbances to a Special Committee to investigate the disturbances and make recommendations to the party for onward action.
In a statement released by the party on Tuesday night, October 17 2023 and signed by the General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the Special Committee comprised of Rt. Hon. NDC Postpones Odododiodio Constituency Parliamentary Primary
In the meantime, the National Democratic Congress indicated that all processes relative to the party’s parliamentary primary in the Odododiodio Constituency have been put on hold pending the outcome of investigations by the Special Committee.
On the other hand, the National Youth Wing of the National Democratic Congress has condemned the remarks made by President Akufo-Addo during his visit to victims and communities affected by the flood occasioned by the Akosombo and Kpong dams’ spillage.
In a statement signed by the National Youth Organizer of the party, George Opare Addo Esq. it considered President Akufo-Addo’s statement of lacking empathy and failing to resonate with the plight of the flood victims
According to him, the President’s words, implying that assistance and support are conditional upon political allegiance and electoral outcomes, are ‘divisive, insensitive and wholly unacceptance’.
“The National Youth Wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) vehemently condemns the divisive remark made by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in the wake of the devastating Akosombo dam spillage that has wreaked havoc in numerous areas, particularly North Tong, South Tongue, Ada, and Sege. It is deeply troubling that the President made this statement while in a gathering in the Volta Region, an area directly affected by the spillage”.

Again, Mr Opare Addo chastised President Akufo-Addo for failing to demonstrate the same level of empathy, care, and support he often shows to other countries in times of crisis to the communities affected by the flood occasioned by the Akosombo and Kpong dam’s spillage.
He also noted that the Akosombo dam spillage has had severe consequences for the affected communities, resulting in displacement, destruction of livelihoods, and immense hardships, and it’s , therefore, the duty of President Akufo-Addo to rise above partisan politics and prioritize the well-being of all Ghanaian citizens, irrespective of their political affiliations or voting patterns.
“It is worth noting that this is the same President who extended hands of financial and moral support to nations such as France and Sierre Leone during their respective humanitarian crisis”.
George Opare Addo Esq.
The NDC National Youth Organizer thus called on President Akufo-Addo to recognize the gravity of his statement and the impact it has on national unity and urged him to retract his remark and issue an immediate apology to the people of the Volta region and all Ghanaians who have been affected by the spillage.
Additionally, Mr Opare Addo implored President Akufo-Addo and his administration to take immediate action to address the needs of those affected, providing the necessary support, resources, and assistance to aid in their recovery and rehabilitation.
