Ghana’s development landscape in the last few decades is strewn with countless incomplete projects—silent monuments to missed opportunities leading to inefficient governance.
From abandoned roads and uncompleted hospitals to half-finished schools and irrigation systems, these structures tell a sobering story of resources wasted and potentially stifled.
Each project left in limbo represents not only a financial loss but also a betrayal of the communities that depend on these initiatives for transformative change.
As the nation grapples with pressing socio-economic challenges, the pervasive culture of project abandonment threatens to stall progress and erode public trust in leadership.
However, the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has revealed that the party, if elected into office, will complete all projects initiated by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) except for the National Cathedral.
Speaking at Walembele in the Sissala East Constituency during a two-day retail campaign tour of the Upper West Region, Mr. Aseidu Nketiah emphasized the NDC’s commitment to prioritizing the needs of Ghanaians. He charged;
“We believe that it is our money that any government uses to start those projects. So, whether they are started by us or they are started by another government, if We leave them to rot, we are hurting the community.”

The NDC Chairman saying ‘‘our money” underscored the fact that taxpayers fund government projects, making their completion essential for community and national development.
Aseidu Nketiah outlined the NDC’s approach to governance, highlighting the need to avoid excess political partisanship when it comes to developmental projects.
He reiterated; ”When we come, whatever project they may have started… we will look at them and then see to it that we complete them.’’
The decision to exclude the National Cathedral reflects the NDC’s position on prioritizing projects that align more closely with the immediate needs of citizens and their communities.
Strong NDC Presence in Sissala East
Meanwhile, the Sissala East Constituency has traditionally been a stronghold for the NDC, delivering over 80% of presidential votes to the party in the last elections.
Despite this dominance, the NDC failed to secure the parliamentary seat in the previous election, a loss attributed to local dynamics and challenges.
The NDC parliamentary candidate Mr. Mohammed Issah Bataglia, is optimistic about reclaiming the seat in the upcoming elections.
Addressing supporters, he emphasized the constituency’s potential and the importance of collaborative efforts. He emphasized;
“We are Sissalas. ‘Sissale’ literally means builders. We want to join hands with Chairman General [Asiedu Nketia] to build Ghana, build societies, and [elevate] Walembele to a level that will invite investors to open up economic opportunities in the area.”

Asiedu Nketiah expressed confidence in the NDC’s chances in the upcoming elections, describing the signs as favorable for a resounding victory.
He credited the party’s track record and policies for the growing support it continues to receive across the country. Many Ghanaians already celebrating the NDC ”in high spirits” with responses that the signs are very clear that the NDC will win next month’s elections.
His message resonated with supporters, who are eager to see the NDC reclaim leadership and deliver on its promises of inclusive development.
Exclusion of the National Cathedral Project
The National Cathedral project has really been fraught with controversies over funding and land acquisition and continued to face criticism from various quarters, including opposition parties and civil society organizations.
By emphasizing community-driven development, the NDC seeks to draw a clear-cut distinction between its approach to governance and that of the NPP.
Johnson Asiedu Nketiah’s remarks at Walembele reflect the NDC’s focus on a more pragmatic and feasible impactful governance.
With a commitment to completing ongoing projects and fostering economic growth, the party aims to strengthen its position in constituencies like Sissala East while addressing the developmental challenges facing Ghana.
As the elections draw near, the NDC’s message of continuity, responsibility, and prioritization of taxpayers’ resources is expected to resonate with many voters eager for tangible improvements in their communities.
