NPP Accused of Using Napo’s Running Mate Selection to Rig Elections

The NDC Eastern Regional Legal Affairs Director, Isaac Minta Larbi Esq. has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of using the selection of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh as their Vice Presidential candidate to cover up a purported rigging agenda in the Ashanti and Eastern Regions.

In a detailed critique, Lawyer Larbi alleged that the NPP’s strategy is designed to manipulate electoral outcomes in their favor amidst growing public discontent with the current administration.

“The NPP has struggled to choose a Vice Presidential Candidate because they don’t have the men who can deliver. They have been badly exposed by their incompetent performance which is reflected in the broken and debt-ridden economy. They know Ghanaians have rejected them and there’s no way they can win this election”.

He contended that the NPP’s choice of the Manhyia South Member of Parliament was driven by the party’s failure to find a more viable candidate who could appeal to the electorate.

He described Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh as a “camouflage” intended to mask the NPP’s intentions to manipulate election results in key regions.

According to Lawyer Larbi, the NPP’s poor governance record has left them with no option but to resort to rigging tactics to maintain power.

Historical Rigging Allegations

The renowned private legal practitioner further accused the ruling New Patriotic Party of its long-standing trait of rigging election in the Ashanti and Eastern Regions.

He claimed that the NPP has historically used these regions as their “world bank” for rigging elections, contrasting this with the NDC’s genuine electoral support in the Volta Region.

“Since the days NDC claimed that Volta Region was our world bank, the NPP swore to also use Ashanti and Eastern as their world bank. Even though the NDC never rigged any elections in the Volta Region and the results that come in from the Volta Region are genuine, the NPP, knowing it could never win any genuine elections in Ghana, decided to also clandestinely use Ashanti and Eastern for their election rigging operations.”

Internal Party Discord and the Threat of Alan Kyerematen

Moreover, Lawyer Isaac Minta Larbi pointed out the internal conflicts within the NPP, particularly the fallout of the former Minister of Trade and Industry, and the leading member of the ruling party, Alan Kyerematen to run as an independent candidate under his Movement for Change.

He posited that Mr Kyerematen’s popularity in the Ashanti Region poses a significant threat to the NPP’s traditional stronghold, complicating the ruling party’s alleged rigging plans.

“Faced with their inability to rig the elections as they always do use Ashanti and Eastern Region, the NPP decided to settle for an Ashanti man from Manhyia with the aim that once they rig the election in Ashanti and Eastern they would quickly come up with the theory that Napo is from Manhyia the heart of Ashanti so the numbers coming out of Ashanti regions is because Ashantis love their own”.

The Arrogance Factor

In addition, the National Democratic Congress’s Eastern Regional Legal Affairs Director criticized Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh for his perceived arrogance and disrespect towards Ghanaians, suggesting that his unpopularity further undermines the NPP’s chances.

He pointed out that the Energy Minister is “highly disfavoured in Ashanti and throughout Ghana for his arrogant and disrespectful posture towards the good citizens of Ghana”.

Lawyer Isaac Minta Larbi Esq concluded his statement by calling on Ghanaians to remain vigilant and monitor the election process closely, especially in the Ashanti and Eastern Regions.

He warned the NPP that any attempts to rig the election would be met with resistance from the NDC and the public.

“We in the NDC are ready for them. Our eyes will be watching their every move and ensure that they, together with the EC, play a fair game in Ashanti and Eastern Region. If their intention is to use Napo as a camouflage to steal the elections, then they are mistaken. Ghanaians have rejected the NPP and no amount of rigging, intimidation, threats, or killing of innocent Ghanaians like they did in 2020 will overturn the will of the people of Ghana.”

Isaac Minta Larbi Esq, NDC Eastern Regional Legal Affairs Director

Lawyer Larbi urged all well-meaning Ghanaians to keep a close watch on the election results from the Ashanti and Eastern Regions to prevent any manipulation, underscoring the critical need for Ghanaians to vote against the incumbent party.

“We are taking back our country at all costs. Enough of the mess, the loot, and the suffering we are going through under this sloganeering and loudmouth but empty NPP government”, Lawyer Larbi strongly stated.
