A group of the New Patriotic Party delegates in the Akyem Swedru Constituency in the Eastern Region have denied allegations made by the Member of Parliament for Bongo Constituency, Edward Bawa, implying that several delegates in the constituency have been put on the government payroll by the Controller and Accountant General over the past two years.
Addressing a press conference, the Spokesperson for the group, Nana Ofosu-Afrifa described the allegations as without basis and urged the opposition National Democratic Congress lawmaker, Edward Bawah to issue an unqualified apology to the group or receive the wrath of the group.
According to Nana Ofosu-Afrifa, the claims made by the Bongo Member of Parliament, Edward Bawah have not only impugned the integrity of the venerable Mr Kwasi Kwaning–Bosompem, the Controller and Accountant General but have equally marred the reputation of the over two hundred and eighty-four delegates of the New Patriotic Party in the Akyem Swedru Constituency.
The Spokesperson of the group further chastised Mr Edward Bawah for deliberatively making the allegations to cause public disaffection against the New Patriotic Party and score cheap political points for the National Democratic Congress ahead of the 2024 general election.
Furthermore, Nana Ofosu-Afrifa accused the current Member of Parliament for the Akyem Swedru Constituency, Kennedy Osei Nyarko for masterminding the allegations against Mr Kwasi Kwaning–Bosompem, the Controller and Accountant-General who has declared his intention to contest the party’s parliamentary primaries in the constituency on January 27 2024.
Group Tout Controller And Accountant-General’s Credibility
Moreover, the Spokesperson for the New Patriotic Party delegates in the Akyem Swedru Constituency, Nana Ofosu-Afrifa touted the credibility of the Mr Kwasi Kwaning–Bosompem, Controller and Accountant General as a public servant and strongly opined that such a man is capable of helping his constituent without overburdening the state.
According to Nana Ofosu-Afrifa, Mr Kwasi Kwaning–Bosompem’s professional and ethical competence is what has led to the transformation of Ghana’s public financial management system under his watch as the Controller and Accountant-General.
“As a professional chartered management accountant whose area of work requires him to safeguard the purse of the nation, he would not fraudulently commit such a heinous offence against the state and his constituency, friends, and family”.

Nana Ofosu-Afrifa further explained that Mr Bawa clearly demonstrated ignorance in his allegations against Mr Kwasi Kwaning–Bosompem which was fueled by political expediency, else he would have realized that it is under the current Controller and Accountant General that the government workers on controller’s payroll have to be validated each month before they are paid.
“How then does he go for such an assignment to disgrace himself and to create a bad name for himself?

Meanwhile, Kennedy Osei Nyarko, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for the Akim Swedru Constituency has dismissed the claims by the Bongo Constituency lawmaker that some New Patriotic Party delegates in the Akyem Swedru Constituency are on government payroll for political reasons.
He thus urged the general public and his constituents to ignore the allegations made by the opposition National Democratic Congress Member of Parliament and treat it with the contempt it deserves.
“As a Member of Parliament for the Akyem Swedru constituency, I would like to address the recent allegations regarding the Controller and Accountant General putting my delegates on the payroll for election purposes. I want to clarify that these allegations are entirely false and unfounded. I want to emphasize that none of my delegates are on the payroll to influence the election. It is crucial to maintain the integrity of our democratic process and ensure that elections are conducted fairly and transparently”
