New Patriotic Party (NPP) flag-bearer hopeful, John Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen paid a courtesy call on the overlord of the Ashanti Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at his palace at the beginning of this week.
Mr. Kyerematen during his address at the palace, announced that he had come to the palace of the revered king to seek his blessing ahead of the party’s soon coming election towards its new flag-bearer.
It is highly known that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is an Ashanti Kingdom based party that has most of its flag bearers being members of the Ashanti Kingdom, just as it is also believed that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) belongs to most people who come from the Volta Region as well as the Northern Region of Ghana; and Convention’s Peoples Party (CPP) is likewise believed to have most of its members coming from the Central Region; particularly amongst the Fantes.
As such, most men who want to tie up the position of the NPP flag bearer ought to seek the permission and blessings of the current Otumfuo to have the support of the remaining Asante empire.
It has been speculated so far that most political parties are tribal based but no one really wants to put it out there to be as such. Many believe that if you are not an Akan, it would be very difficult to be accepted as the flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party because it once emanated from the Asante empire with most of the leaders being people of the Asante Kingdom.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Speaks To Alan Kyerematen
Alan Kyerematen made his case known to the king with all respect and waited to hear what Otumfuo had to say to the NPP flag bearer hopeful.
In response to this mission, Otumfuo assured Mr. Kyerematen of his blessings while underscoring the need for the party to rally behind whoever emerges as the eventual winner of the upcoming contest.
“For me, I can only support you with prayers and my blessing. Just as you have come here, your contenders will also troop here for my blessings. It is God who crowns a king and no matter how hard one tries; it is the decision of God so let us leave everything in the hands of the Almighty God,” the king said.
Further to his blessings, Otumfuo entreated Mr. Kyerematen to run a decent campaign devoid of personal attacks. That there should be no instance where Alan Kyerematen makes mention of anyone’s name with intentions of tarnishing that person’s’ image.
Otumfuo told Alan Kyerematen that once it is decided by God to be his; Kyerematen’s, nothing can rip that from his hands and as such he should refrain from insults and indecency of any form in the campaign that will be conducted.
Otumfuo spoke generally afterwards, to all men or women who would want to hold the flag bearer position of the NPP that they should all try their best not to use words and actions that will bring disgrace to the NPP but rather no matter who is given victory, they would all fall behind him with all their might and push him forward.
