President Akufo-Addo has disclosed that the new presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), will win the 2024 December elections.
Speaking at the party’s 29th celebration and its contribution to governance in the 4th republic, he noted that the strengthening of the party and its associated auxiliary arms will ensure the win.
Without mincing words, the President explained that the objective and responsibility of the party, is “to do whatever it is necessary to make sure that victory is forthcoming”.
“Today, we are celebrating the 29th anniversary of the New Patriotic Party. The political tradition that was born on that day has gone through a lot of challenge, turbulence and difficulties but has consistently emerged stronger and stronger. So, today, the challenges that confront our country, the difficulties that we’ve been plunged into by the COVID is going to give us the opportunity to grow stronger and stronger. That strengthening of our party, its organs, is going to mean one thing… that on the 7th of December, 2024, the new NPP Presidential candidate is going to win the election of 2024.
“We have to continue our way forward in Ghana, we cannot accept the backsliding that takes place every now and then. It hasn’t benefited our nation and it will not benefit our nation. The foundations that we are laying today for the prosperity of our nation, are going to be shaken if again, through our own fault, we allow the path to progress to be diverted. Yes, the nation is facing challenges [and] difficulties, but these challenges and difficulties can and will be overcome… because we have the policies, programs and we have the values that will enable us to continue our journey of development in freedom”.

Furthermore, President Akufo-Addo expressed his delight over the “opportunity as President to celebrate this day”.
According to him, this is predicate on his entire life being “dedicated to the struggle of our party”.
“It’s difficult for us to celebrate the occasion with the abandon and freedom we would have liked. We cannot overlook this awful pandemic that has hit the world and our country; that is why we have to do our celebration in a muted way. But be that as it may, everybody who subscribes to the values of development in freedom, the values of the NPP wherever you are… today is a day for celebration”.

On his part, the national chairman of the party, Freddie Blay expounded on some challenges of the party. He indicated that the last 29 years of the party’s life has been riddled with difficulties.
This, he explained, includes inter-party wrangling, unrest by disgruntled members, aggressive confrontations and sometimes unfriendly hostilities.
That notwithstanding, Mr Blay highlighted the strength displayed by the party in dealing with such challenges.
“But our party has a tradition of resilience which has consistently put its ability to involve itself towards meeting the challenges. We have survived very tough moments even in opposition… our differences have only cemented our bond of unity and amplified our commitment to inclusiveness and tolerance through [the] spirit of liberal democracy”.
